The Steel were 2-9-2 on home ice after Sunday’s 3-2 loss to the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.

The Steel have the fewest wins (five), most losses (21), fewest points (12) and the most goals against (128) as the last-place team in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

Tuesday the Steel visit the Drayton Valley Thunder at 7:30 p.m.

The St. Albert Slash skate Sunday against the Grande Prairie Storm in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League. Faceoff is 11 a.m. at Performance Arena.

The second-place Slash had eight more wins and 16 more points than the last-place Storm in the north division after crushing the Sherwood Park Fury 7-1 last weekend in St. Albert.

Ashley Morin, Deanna Morin, Rebecca Wall, Nicole Simmonds, Eliza Snider, Kate Lumley and Charity Price lit the lamp after the Fury opened the scoring in the first period. Slash netminder Kaelin Klim faced 17 shots.

The St. Albert Flyers play the Spruce Grove PAC Saints on Sunday in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League. Game time is 8:15 p.m. at the Glenn Hall Centennial Arena in Stony Plain.

The sixth win in seven games by the Flyers was 3-2 against the Maple Leafs in St. Albert last week. Three unanswered goals in the third period by Tyler Mrkonjic, Zack Gonek and Brett Van Os raised the team’s record to 8-2-3. Winning netminder Patrick Gora stopped 15 shots.

Tuesday the Flyers visit the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers at 8 p.m. at JRC Arena.

The St. Albert Skyhawks and Paul Kane Blues tip off the high school basketball season next week at the 14th annual Mike Dea Classic at the St. Francis Xavier Sports Centre.

Both teams are in action Thursday. Paul Kane and Bert Church Chargers of Airdrie meet at noon in the men’s round of 16. The Skyhawks play the Sturgeon Spirits or Jasper Place Rebels at 2 p.m. in the women’s quarter-finals.

The Skyhawks are the two-time reigning 3A provincial gold medallists and Paul Kane is the defending Metro Edmonton premier conference champion.
