The St. Albert Slash host the Edmonton Thunder tonight in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League.
Faceoff is 8:30 p.m. at Northstar Hyundai Arena. The Slash are 2-5-2 on St. Albert ice.
In the north division the Thunder, winners of five-straight AMMFHL titles, are first at 14-3-2 and the Slash are fifth out of six teams at 5-10-5.
In late September the Thunder – three-time bronze medallists and the 2011 runners-up at the Esso Cup nationals – blanked the Slash 7-0 in St. Albert.
The Slash, 1-2-2 in their last five games, are coming off a 3-0 road win over the Sherwood Park Fury (3-15-4) last week.
Sydney Williams (4-5-4, 2.41 GAA) posted the team’s first shutout with a game-high 28 saves. Jennifer Gaeckle tallied twice and Kennedy Newton also scored.
The annual Rise Up basketball tournament tips off Thursday at Sturgeon Composite High School.
At 4 p.m. in the men’s draw the Paul Kane Blues play the Spruce Grove Panthers in the north gym and the Sturgeon Spirits hook up with Ryley in the main gym in the women’s draw.
Sturgeon, Salisbury Sabres, Archbishop MacDonald Marauders, Memorial Marauders, Bev Facey Falcons and Regina Christian Grizzlies round out the men’s teams. Sturgeon and Salisbury meet 6:15 p.m. Thursday in the main gym.
The women’s teams include the Bellerose Bulldogs, Louis St. Laurent Barons, Lloydminster Barons, W.R. Myers Rebels of Taber, MacDonald and Memorial.
The first game for Bellerose is 10 a.m. Friday versus MacDonald in the north gym.
The men’s semifinals in the main gym are 4 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday.
In the main gym Saturday the third-place game is 3 p.m. and the final is 7 p.m.
The women’s semifinals are 2 p.m. Friday in the main gym and 11 a.m. Saturday in the north gym.

Thursday the St. Albert Flyers visit CAC United Cycle in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.
Puck drop is 8:15 p.m. at Callingwood Arena.
In the north standings the Flyers (9-3-4) are second and CAC (7-6-2) is eighth.
Last weekend the Flyers lost 3-1 to the fourth-place Squires (8-6-3) in Sherwood Park. Sean Richards scored and goalie Matt Murray faced 31 shots.
