Tonight the St. Albert Slash host the Sherwood Park Fury in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League.
Faceoff is 8:15 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.
The Slash home record is 7-3-1.
The Fury (14-8-2) trail the third-place Slash (14-7-5) by three points with two games in hand.
The No. 1-ranked 4A St. Albert Skyhawks visit the Jasper Place Rebels tonight in metro Edmonton division one women’s basketball.
Tip-off is 6:30 p.m. between the Skyhawks (3-0 in league play and 9-0 overall) and Rebels (2-2).
Thursday in the men’s division two pool B league the Skyhawks (1-1) host the Austin O’Brien Crusaders (0-1) at 5 p.m. at the SkyDome.
Tuesday the Skyhawks hooped it up against the Archbishop MacDonald Marauders (0-1) but the score was unavailable at press time.
Thursday the Paul Kane Classic tips off in high school basketball.
The tournament opener between the Paul Kane men and Lloydminster Barons starts at 1:45 p.m. and the lady Blues play the Bishop O’Byrne Bobcats of Calgary at 3:30 p.m. at Paul Kane High School.
The Sturgeon Spirits also host the M.E. Lazerte Voyageurs at 5 p.m. in the men’s bracket and the Catholic Central Cougars of Lethbridge at 6:45 p.m. in the women’s bracket.
The Edmonton Christian Lions, W.P. Wagner Warriors, McNally Tigers and Fort McMurray Miners round out the men’s teams.
The Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association rankings list Paul Kane (7-5 overall) eighth in 4A and Edmonton Christian is fifth and Sturgeon is seventh in 3A.
Friday the men’s semifinals are 5:45 and 9:15 p.m. and Saturday the consolation final is 1:45 p.m., the third-place game is 5:15 p.m. and the final is 8:45 p.m.
The women’s teams include the O’Leary Spartans, Medicine Hat Kwahommies, E.P. Scarlett Lancers of Calgary and Fort McMurray.
In the 4A rankings Medicine Hat is sixth, the Blues (6-4 overall) are ninth and Catholic Central and E.P. Scarlett are honourable mentions.
At the 2014 4A women’s provincials Medicine Hat beat the Blues 70-50 in the consolation final.
Friday the women’s semifinals are 4 and 7:30 p.m. and Saturday the consolation final is noon, the third-place game is 3:30 p.m. and the final is 7 p.m.
Meanwhile today in the metro Edmonton division one men’s league Paul Kane (3-2) travels to Sherwood Park to play the Bev Facey Falcons (3-1) at 5 p.m.
