Sunday the St. Albert Raiders host the Calgary Buffaloes in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.
Puck drop is 1:15 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The Raiders (13-4-7) are chasing the first-place Canadian Athletic Club (16-5-3) in the north division and the Buffaloes (15-5-4) are the south division leaders.
The Raiders start the new year undefeated in 14 games (11-0-3) as winners of seven straight.
Meanwhile on Jan. 25 the Raiders will host the Hockey Alberta U16 Canada Winter Games team at 2:30 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The Team Alberta roster features defenceman Ian Mitchell and centre Ryan Peckford of the Raiders.
The top two north division teams in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League hook up Sunday, when the St. Albert Flyers host the SSAC Bulldogs at 5 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The Bulldogs (21-0-1) have a firm grip on first place and the midget 15 Flyers (14-3-4) are one point ahead of the third-place Sherwood Park Squires (14-5-3).
Before the Christmas break, the Flyers swept the Storm 8-2 and 5-4 in Grande Prairie to close out their December schedule at 5-0-1 after going 3-2-2 in November. One of the losses last month was 5-2 against the Bulldogs.
Leif Mattson of the Flyers shredded the Storm (8-10-4) for five goals and five assists in the weekend sweep.
Mattson is the league leader in goals with 33 (four on the power play and five shorthanded) and points with 62 in only 20 games.
The first-place St. Albert Merchants bring a nine-game winning streak into Sunday’s contest against the Edmonton Mustangs in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.
Faceoff is 8 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena where the Merchants are 12-1 this season.
The Money Men (22-5) are 11 points clear of the Mustangs (16-8-1) in the west division with 11 games remaining before the playoffs start.
Registrations are being accepted for the Solo Liquor Stores Mixed Bonspiel at the St. Albert Curling Club.
The entry fee is $300 per rink for the Jan. 22 to 25 competition. Teams are guaranteed three games and off-ice treats.
