The Paul Kane Blues and Bellerose Bulldogs clash today in the metro Edmonton high school junior football playoffs at Johnny Bright Park.
The premier conference semifinals kick off at 5 p.m. between the 3-0 Blues and the 2-1 Beaumont Bandits. At 7:30 p.m. the 2-1 Bulldogs battle the 3-0 Bev Facey Falcons. Admission is $5.
The winners advance to the Nov. 3 final. Paul Kane and Bellerose are both 5-1 overall this year.
The St. Albert Sabres host the KC Squires (3-5) tonight in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League. Face-off is 7:45 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The Sabres are 5-1-2 in the nitro north division after a pair of 4-4 draws last weekend. In both games the Sabres were outshot and gave up the game-tying goal in the third period.
Cam Mazur, Mark Matsuba, Joshua Mahura and Ethan Lazaro scored and Patrick Dea stopped 38 shots against the division-leading Canadian Athletic Club (6-1-2) Saturday at Coronation Arena.
Lazaro, Matsuba, Curtis Peck and Joshua Perrott filled the net and Matt Murray turned aside 39 shots against the Flyers (5-2-1) Sunday in Sherwood Park.
A victory tonight by the Morinville Jets would extend their lead in the west division of the Capital Junior B Hockey League. Game time against the Edmonton Mustangs (4-7) is 8 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena.
The Jets improved their record to 8-2-1 with Sunday’s 4-1 decision against the Stony Plain Flyers (0-9-1).
On Sunday the Jets hit the road to play the Wetaskiwin Icemen (6-4) at 2 p.m.
The next junior B home game for the St. Albert Merchants is Friday against the undefeated Edmonton Royals. Puck drop is 8 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The 6-4-1 Merchants dropped to fourth place in the west division after road losses of 5-3 against the Sherwood Park Knights (8-1-1) and 6-4 against the Spruce Grove Regals (8-3) last weekend.
The Royals lead the east division with 11 wins.
The St. Albert Flyers and the Lloydminster Rage have a game scheduled Saturday in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League. Start time is 1:15 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
In the north conference the Flyers trail the first-place Rage (7-0) by six points.
The Flyers are 3-2-2 after Sunday’s 2-1 squeaker against the KC Centennials (1-3-2) at Callingwood Arena. Andrew Kary and Zack Gonek scored in the last three minutes of regulation time to erase a one-goal deficit. Shots were 30-20 for the Flyers. In net was T.J. Bartlett.
The win was the second in a row and the third in six games for the fourth-place Flyers.
