The playoffs are underway today at the 17th annual Lions Western Canadian Challenge high school volleyball tournament in St. Albert and Morinville.

Bellerose Composite High School hosts the women’s semifinals at 5:30 p.m., the bronze final at 7 p.m. and the gold-medal match at 8 p.m.
Morinville Community High School will stage the men’s semifinals at 5:30 p.m., the bronze final at 7 p.m. and the gold-medal match at 8 p.m.
The consolation finals start at 7 p.m. at Vincent J. Maloney School for the women and St. Albert Catholic High School for the men.
The Capital District Minor Football Association playoffs kick off this weekend for the St. Albert teams in the bantam, peewee and atom divisions.

The St. Albert Raiders skate twice this weekend at Akinsdale Arena in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.
The Raiders play the south-division leading Calgary Flames (5-0-1) tonight at 8 p.m. and the Calgary Buffaloes (3-3) Sunday at 1:15 p.m.
Last weekend in Calgary the Raiders posted wins of 9-6 against the Northstars (3-2-1) and 3-2 against the Buffaloes.
The Raiders (5-0-1) are battling for top spot in the north with the Leduc Oil Kings (6-1), the host team for the 2012 TELUS Cup national championship. Raiders forward Luke Mahura ranks second in league scoring with 11 points. He is also the team leader in goals with five.
The Paul Kane Blues, St. Albert Skyhawks and Bellerose Bulldogs have home court advantage Monday in metro Edmonton premier women’s volleyball.
Paul Kane (6-1) hosts the St. Francis Xavier Rams (5-3), the Skyhawks (6-2) entertain the Salisbury Sabres (2-7) and the Sturgeon Spirits (3-5) visit Bellerose (1-7). Game times are 4:45 p.m.
The playoffs start Nov. 2. Paul Kane is the defending premier champion.
