This weekend the St. Albert Raiders skate twice at Akinsdale Arena in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.

Game times are 1:15 p.m. Saturday against the Red Deer Chiefs (10-3-2), four-time defending provincial champions, and Sunday against the Grande Prairie Storm (4-9-4).

The Raiders (8-7-2), ranked sixth out of 10 teams in the north standings, have lost four of their last six games. They are the top defensive team (40 GA) and the lowest-scoring team (42 GF) in the north.

The St. Albert Sabres host the Lloydminster Heat Saturday in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.

Puck drop is 3:45 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

Sunday the Sabres travel to Sherwood Park to play the Flyers at 6 p.m.

The Sabres (7-7-1) trail the third-place Flyers (9-6-2) by five points with two games in hand in the nitro north division.

The Heat (17-1) are ranked first overall in the AMBHL as the charger north division leaders.

The last game for the Sabres was Tuesday’s 4-3 loss to the SSAC Southgate Lions (14-2) at Bill Hunter Arena.

Zach Marano, Aidan Steinke and Tylor Jans scored.

The Sabres were outshot 39-16 and Nate Reinhart (5-3, 2.26 GAA) was in net.

Steinke is the team leader in points with 13 in 15 games.

The top two north division teams in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League face-off tonight at 6:15 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

The St. Albert Flyers (8-1-4) are five points back of the Leduc Oil Kings (12-1-1) with one game in hand.

The teams battled to a 4-4 draw in the Oct. 4 season opener in Leduc.

Sunday the Flyers and KC Centennials (5-6-4) clash at 6:15 p.m. at Callingwood Arena.

After 13 games the Flyers are led offensively by Ryan Cox’s 10 goals, including five on the power play, and 23 points and Sean Richard’s nine goals and 21 points.

Matt Murray (5-0-2) ranks third among the league’s netminders with a 2.29 GAA.

Sunday the St. Albert Merchants visit the Edmonton Mustangs in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.

Faceoff is 8 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena.

The first-place Merchants (16-2-1) won five in a row before playing the Morinville Jets on Friday. The score was unavailable at press time.

The Merchants were No. 1 in goals scored (113) and goals against (44) prior to the road game.
