The atom Buccaneers (1-5-1) played the Sherwood Park Warriors (5-2) and the bantam 49ers (1-4) tackled the Sherwood Park Northstars (3-2). Scores were unavailable at press time.

Three games are scheduled Sunday against the Spruce Grove Cougars at the Fuhr Sports Park. At 11 a.m. the Vikings (3-4) take on the atom Cougars (1-6). The Fury (4-1) play the bantam Cougars (2-3) at 12:30 p.m. The Colts (1-5) are in action against the peewee Cougars (0-6) at 3 p.m.

First place in the Johnny Bright peewee division is at stake Sunday, when the Riders (5-1) battle the Sherwood Park Raiders (6-0) at 1:30 p.m. at Strathcona Athletic Park.

The playoff rounds to determine the tier I, II, III and IV brackets in the atom, peewee and bantam divisions starts next weekend.

The St. Albert Sabres host the Maple Leafs today in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League. Game time is 1:15 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

In the nitro north division the Sabres are 4-1 and the Maple Leafs are winless in seven games.

Ethan Lazaro and Curtis Peck are the top-scoring Sabres with eight points apiece. Matteo Gennaro is the team leader in goals with four in four games.

Patrick Dea (3-1) sports the highest save percentage in the league at .951 and his 2.00 GAA is tied for third place.

The St. Albert Merchants and the Fort Saskatchewan Hawks face-off Sunday at 8 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.

Skating into Friday’s home game against the Wetaskiwin Icemen (score unavailable at press time), the Merchants shared first place in the west division with the Morinville Jets at 5-1-1. The Hawks were 3-3-1 in the east division.

The Merchants are led offensively by Jake Behiels’ seven goals and six assists. Netminder Curtis Ronaldson is 4-0 with a 2.94 GAA.

Monday’s volleyball doubleheader at Paul Kane High School starts at 4:45 p.m. between the Blues and Bellerose Bulldogs in the metro Edmonton premier women’s conference.

The Blues are 5-1 and Bellerose is 1-5. In the 4A provincial high school rankings, the Blues are tied for third place with Sir Winston Churchill of Calgary. The 2010 premier champions are the top metro team and the second-highest listed Edmonton zone team in the rankings.

The Blues and Bellerose will also compete in the premier men’s match at 6:15 p.m. The Blues are 2-3 and Bellerose is winless in four matches.
