The fifth annual Dominion Curling Club Championships are underway for the St. Albert rink skipped by Lauren Jenkyns at the Fort William Curling Club in Thunder Bay, Ont.
In Monday’s opening draw Team Alberta counted three with the hammer and stole three in the second end, en route to a convincing 9-2 win in seven ends over Paulette Girvan of the Rexton Curling Club in New Brunswick.
Tuesday the Jenkyns’ foursome of third Kathy Piper, second Laurie Schreiner and lead Diana Backer played Nicole Baldwin of the Whitehorse Curling Club and Northern Ontario’s Kathie Jackson of the Fort Francis Curling Club. Scores were unavailable at press time.
Today’s match is against Amy Gibson of the Vancouver Curling Club.
The Northwest Territories and Manitoba are also grouped with Alberta in the grey pool.
The Dominions features women’s and men’s rinks that won their respective club championships. A playdown format produces champions from all 10 provinces and three territories, plus a separate entry for Northern Ontario.
The semifinals are Friday and the finals are Saturday.
