The 13th annual Turkey Ring tournament is underway in St. Albert with a record 67 teams participating. The age-group divisions are U9 bunny, U10 novice, U12 petite A, B and C, U14 tween A and B, U16 junior A and B and U19 belle A and B.

Most of the games are scheduled for Servus Credit Union Place.

The 120-game draw wraps up with Monday’s belle B final at 4:30 p.m. at Performance Arena.

The tournament is hosted by the St. Albert Ringette Association.

First place is on the line today in the Johnny Bright division, when the St. Albert Fury and Edmonton Chargers huddle up at the Riel Park turf field. Kickoff is 12:30 p.m.

Both bantam teams are 4-0 in the Capital District Minor Football Association. The Fury, who have outscored opponents 174-31, are coming off a bye week after handing the Edmonton Blue Seahawks (3-2) their first loss of the season, 40-19 on Sept. 25 in St. Albert.

Last weekend the Chargers (214 PF/22 PA) punished the winless St. Albert 49ers 60-0 in Edmonton.

The St. Albert Steel opened their three-game road trip through southern Alberta on Friday night against the Canmore Eagles. The score was unavailable at press time.

The Steel (1-7-2) and Eagles (1-9) were in last place in their respective divisions in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

Tonight the Steel visit the Okotoks Oilers (4-6) at 7 p.m.

Sunday the Steel play the Calgary Canucks (4-8) at 2 p.m. at Max Bell Arena.

The Steel also have a road game scheduled Wednesday against the Lloydminster Bobcats (4-4-1) at 7:30 p.m.

The next home contest is Oct. 15 against the Calgary Mustangs (4-5-2). Faceoff is 7 p.m. at Performance Arena.

St. Albert teams in the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League are on the road this weekend.

Tonight at 7:30 p.m. the Crusaders play the Sturgeon Hockey Club Mustangs at the Ray MacDonald Sports Centre.

The Blues make their season debut Monday in Sherwood Park against the Oilers. Game time is 8:30 p.m.

The Blues, 2011 playoff finalists and midget AA provincial silver medallists, entertain the KC Colts on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. at Troy Murray Arena.

Last weekend the Crusaders lost their season opener 8-1 at home against the Peace River Royals.

Tuesday the Crusaders host the Spruce Grove Saints at 8:15 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

The midget AA circuit consists of 26 teams in four divisions. The NE BC & Yukon Trackers are the defending champions.
