The 28-rink draw features Mike Hutchings, the four-time reigning champion, and the South Korean national team.

Hutchings’ rinkmates include Chris King, Derek Skarban and Matt Willerton, who replaces Brian McPherson for the spiel.

Hutchings is 3-3 in the Big Rock Edmonton Super League.

Last month at the Shamrock Shotgun, a World Curling Tour event, Hutchings lost the final to Tom Appelman 5-3.

The SAPEC junior high volleyball league serves up its male and female semifinals this week.

Today in the boys’ division the Lorne Akins Gators (8-0) host the Elmer S. Gish Warriors (5-3) and the William D. Cuts Crusaders (6-2) visit the Sir George Simpson Voyageurs (7-1).

Thursday in the girls division Simpson (7-1) entertains Richard S. Fowler (6-2) and the Vincent J. Maloney Marauders (7-1) welcome Lorne Akins (6-2).

The Tier 1 finals are Tuesday at Bellerose Composite High School.

Simpson is the defending boys’ and girls’ champion.

The Morinville Kings continue their inaugural senior AA season in the North Central Hockey League this weekend with a pair of games against north division teams.

Friday the Kings (3-2) travel to play the Westlock Warriors (3-2) and Saturday they host the Athabasca Aces (2-4) at Ray McDonald Sports Centre. Game times are 8:30 p.m.

The Kings, Warriors, Slave Lake Winterhawks (3-2) and the defending champion Devon Barons (3-2) share first place in the north.

The Drayton Valley Wildcats (5-1) are the top team in the south.

The Kings are 2-0 at home after knocking off the Barons 7-5 Saturday.

Shane O’Neill and Brayden Arcand opened the scoring and the first of two goals by Joshua Lafleche put the Kings up 3-1 before the first period ended.

Cody Issler’s goal with 1:48 left in the middle stanza made it 6-2.

Justin Paul also tallied twice and Justin Christian and Dalen Paul had two assists apiece.

In net was Curtis Ronaldson.

Dalen Paul is the Kings’ top goal scorer with five and shares the team lead in points with Arcand at seven.

The Kings are also league’s the most penalized team with 248 minutes, 33 more than the Whitecourt Wild (3-3). They are the only teams with more than 200 minutes this season.
