Thursday’s Metro Edmonton high school football doubleheader at the Riel Park turf field kicks off at 5 p.m. between the St. Albert High Skyhawks and Austin O’Brien Crusaders.
In the Football Alberta rankings, the Skyhawks (1-2) are listed seventh in tier III and the Crusaders (2-0) are the top tier II team.
At 7:30 p.m., the Bellerose Bulldogs (1-3) battle the number-two ranked tier I Salisbury Sabres (4-0).
Last week in the Carr conference schedule, Bellerose rallied to defeat the Skyhawks 13-10 in the Battle of St. Albert. Both teams are 1-1 in league play.
The St. Albert Steel host the Sherwood Park Crusaders on Friday in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Faceoff is 7 p.m. at Performance Arena.
The Steel were looking for their first win after three losses Tuesday, when they visited the Drayton Valley Thunder. The score was unavailable at press time.
Last weekend, the Steel lost their home opener 6-3 to the Crusaders in front of an announced crowd of 565. The next night in Grande Prairie, the Storm blew the Steel away 9-2.
After three games, captain Taylor Fraser and newcomer John Baird led the Steel in scoring with three points apiece.
The deadline for online registrations for the ninth annual Fall Challenge is tonight at 11:59 p.m.

Late registrations will be accepted Friday and Saturday at the St. Albert Running Room and Sunday between 7 and 8 a.m. at Kingswood Park, the race venue for the 21.1-kilometre half-marathon walk and run, 10-km and five-km races and the 0.5-km kids loop.
Start times are 8 a.m. for the half-marathon walk, 9 a.m. for the half-marathon run (two laps on the trail), 10 km (one lap) and five km, and 11:30 a.m. for the kids loop.
Last year’s record turnout featured 494 runners and walkers.
The half-marathon winner was AJ Rankel of Edmonton. He beat out 253 runners with a time of one hour and 21 minutes.
The fastest female was Wietske Eikelenboom of St. Albert at 1:31:12 for seventh place overall.
The top 10-km finisher was Warren Lesenko at 43:35. Michele Arseneault placed third as the leading female at 45:12.
