Today the Paul Kane Blues huddle up in the Miles conference final in metro Edmonton high school football.
Game time against the Ardrossan Bisons is 11:30 a.m. at Clarke Park. Admission is $5.
It’s the first metro Edmonton league final for the senior team in Paul Kane history. The 2011 juniors won the premier championship in the inaugural season of Paul Kane football. The Blues are 8-0 and Ardrossan is 5-3.
In league play the Blues rallied from a 12-0 deficit with 43 unanswered points to beat Ardrossan 43-20 win in St. Albert.
The Blues are the second metro Tier II (750 to 1,249 students) rep in provincials and Ardrossan is the metro Tier III (450 to 749 students) rep.
In the Football Alberta rankings, the Blues are No. 2 in Tier II and Ardrossan is No. 6 in Tier III.
In the Tier II north semifinals the Blues play No. 5-ranked St. Joseph (9-1) next Saturday in Grande Prairie.
The north final is Nov. 9 in Edmonton and the Alberta Bowl is Nov. 22 in Calgary.
Today at 3 p.m. the St. Albert Buccaneers host the Edmonton Seahawks in the atom Tier 3 final in the Capital District Minor Football Association. Admission is $5 at Riel Recreation Park.
Both teams are 7-1. The Seahawks edged the Bucs 19-18 in league play.
Sunday the St. Albert Colts tackle the Edmonton Black Raiders in the peewee Tier 2 final in the Capital District Minor Football Association.
Kickoff is 5 p.m. at Clarke Park. Admission is $5.
The winner advances to the Tier 2 provincial final Nov. 9 against the Calgary Stampeders or Foothills Eagles in Calgary.
The Colts (2-6), last year's Tier 4 CDMFA champions and provincial finalists, lost 30-6 to the Raiders in league play.
The St. Albert Raiders skate twice this weekend at the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League’s second annual Showcase Extravaganza at Callingwood Twin Arenas.
The Raiders (5-3-2) play the KC Pats (2-6-2) today at 10:45 a.m. and the Calgary Royals (6-2-2) Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
The event features all 18 AMHL teams playing a total of 18 games over two days.
The Raiders, tied for fourth-place in the north division, are 3-3 in one-goal games this season as one of the AMHL’s lowest scoring teams.
The Raiders and the reigning AMHL champion Red Deer Chiefs (6-1-1) are the top defensive teams with 17 goals against.
