The midget AAA St. Albert Raiders host the Canadian Olympic women’s hockey team Monday at 7:45 p.m. at Northstar Hyundai Arena.
Meaghan Mikkelson, one of the inaugural 24 inductees into the City of St. Albert’s Skating Wall of Fame in 2011, is a Team Canada defenceman and 2010 Olympic gold medallist.
Team Canada is playing a series of games against Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League teams leading up to the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics and the results will count in the league standings.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and youths 12 and under and they can be purchased at both Source for Sports stores in St. Albert and from midget AAA Raiders parents.
Tickets will also be available at the door if the event is not sold out. As of Sunday, more than 1,600 tickets were already sold.
Tonight at 7:45 p.m. the St. Albert Raiders face-off against the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers at Akinsdale Arena.
The Raiders are 4-2-1 and the Rangers are 1-7 in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League’s north division.
Last weekend on the road the Raiders lost 3-2 to the Lethbridge Hurricanes and edged the Southeast Tigers of Medicine Hat 2-1.
Ethan Lazaro scored twice in Lethbridge.
It was 2-2 when the home team potted the winner with 4:42 to play.
Shots were 44-37 for the Raiders and Pat Dea (2-1, 1.68 GAA) was in net.
Brendan Passek’s goal with 1:47 remaining was the winner in Medicine Hat. Lazaro also scored and the Tigers struck on the power play five minutes into the third.
The shot count was 36-27 for the Raiders and Pat Gora (2-1-1, 1.25 GAA) was between the pipes.
The No. 1 team in the Capital Junior B Hockey League skates twice this weekend.
Friday the St. Albert Merchants (9-0-1) visit the Leduc Riggers (4-3-1) at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday they host the Wetaskiwin Icemen (3-5-2) at 8 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The Money Men’s ninth-straight win was last weekend’s 4-2 decision against the Edmonton Royals (4-6-1) in St. Albert.
Three consecutive goals in period three snapped a 1-1 deadlock.
Jordan MacPhee tallied twice, Blair Macuch and Josh Jewell notched singles and Connor Hoekstra and Damien McElroy had two assists apiece.
Shots were 42-17 for the Merchants and Max Cathcart (3-1, 1.72 GAA) was in net.
