The eighth annual Ryan Burak Invitational Tournament wraps up today at Paul Kane High School.

The high school junior volleyball draw features six girls’ and six boys’ teams. Local teams include the Paul Kane Blues boys and girls, the Bellerose Bulldogs boys and the lady St. Albert Skyhawks.

Round-robin action starts at 8 a.m. with the finals at 4 p.m.

Matches of note include the Paul Kane boys against Bellerose at 9 a.m. and the Paul Kane girls against the Skyhawks at 10:15 a.m.

League play ends today for St. Albert’s first and third division men’s rugby teams.

The thirds (4-8) host the Cold Lake Penguins (1-11) at 2 p.m. at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club.

A win by the firsts, plus a loss by the Calgary Saints (8-2-1) against the Calgary Canucks (5-6), would lift St. Albert past the Saints into second spot in the Alberta Cup table.

The firsts, winners of eight in a row, are the Labatt’s Cup premier provincial champions.

The first and second division men begin their playoffs on Sept. 13. The firsts host a quarter-final match at 4 p.m. The seconds (8-4) play their Edmonton Rugby Union semifinal against the provincial champion Leduc Crude (7-4) at 2 p.m. at home or in Leduc.
