The Rangers (6-7-3) are slotted fourth in the Edmonton District Soccer Association. Ital (4-6-4) is eighth out of 10 teams.

The second tilt in a week between St. Albert and the Lep/Tigers in third division men’s rugby kicks off Thursday at 7 p.m. at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club.

The Lep/Tigers won the first meeting 29-17 at Ellerslie Rugby Park.

The thirds (4-6) are ranked seventh in the Edmonton Rugby Union table after their second loss in three matches. The Lep/Tigers (3-7) are eighth overall.

The stars will shine bright Friday when the St. Albert Men’s Soccer League hosts its all-star game at 7 p.m. at Riel Park.

Players from GSE, Crossfire, SA United and AC Youngboys will form one team. The other team will consist of members from the CSKA Blues FC, Chester City, Arsenal and SA City.

Meanwhile, league play ends Sunday and the playoffs start Aug. 28. The top two teams in the standings qualify for provincials. Three points separate Chester City (9-2-2), GSE (9-3-1) and CSKA Blues FC (8-2-3) in the pennant race.

A victory Sunday by Chester against Arsenal (5-7-1), the defending playoff champions, would clinch first place. Game time is 1 p.m. at Riel Park.

The best of the best in the St. Albert Women’s Soccer League will showcase their skills in Friday’s all-star game. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Riel Park.

One team will feature players from Mavericks 09, Storm, Goal Diggers, Gini’s and St. Albert FC from division one and Mavericks 95, Lady Killers, Pink Ladies and Falcons from division two.

Representatives from the Morinville Ladies, Lady Titans, Cosmos FC, Fury and Kickers from division one and Snipe, SA Force, Devils and Tsunami from division two will make up the other team.

The St. Albert Steel open their training camp Monday at 11 a.m. at Servus Credit Union Place.

Sixty players are split among three teams for practices and intersquad games. The Steel have two ice slots per day, leading up to their Aug. 26 exhibition against the Sherwood Park Crusaders at 5 p.m. at Performance Arena.

The Steel skate into their fifth Alberta Junior Hockey League season Sept. 9, when they play the Grizzlys in Olds.

The Steel home opener is Sept. 16 against the Crusaders at 7 p.m.
