The playoff venues are Paul Kane High School and Lorne Akins School for the boys and St. Albert Catholic High School and Vincent J. Maloney School for the girls.

The playoff draw for the boys and girls features 32 best-of-three matches.

The round of 16 for boys and girls starts at 8:30 a.m.

The finals are 3:45 p.m. at Paul Kane for boys and St. Albert High for girls.

The defending tournament champions are the Sturgeon Heights Eagles for boys and the William D. Cuts Crusaders for girls.

St. Albert and area representation in the 16-team boys’ and girls’ divisions include the Sir George Simpson Voyageurs, last year’s SAPEC league boys’ and girls’ Tier I playoff champions, William D. Cuts, Lorne Akins Gators, Vincent J. Maloney Marauders, Elmer S. Gish Warriors, Richard S. Fowler Falcons, ESSMY Leopards, Morinville Wolves, Camilla Thunderbirds, Namao Royals and Sturgeon Heights.

The SAPEC regular season starts Oct. 8.

The Canada West football game between the Alberta Golden Bears and Calgary Dinos kicks off today at 5 p.m. at Foote Field.

Both teams feature a number of high school products from St. Albert.

The 74-player roster of Dinos includes Chris Dobko, a fifth-year slotback and the team’s all-time career receptions leader with 146 catches and counting, linebacker Tanner Doll, defensive back Nathan Mitchell and receivers Spencer Duff and Brendan Thera-Plamondon.

Listed on the 80-player roster of Bears is defensive back Brandon Best, offensive lineman Matt Clark and receiver Zach Wilkie.

The Dinos (4-0), five-time defending Hardy Cup playoff conference champions, are ranked No. 5 in the country and the Golden Bears (0-4) are winless in 21 games.

Tonight at 7 p.m. the Alberta Golden Bears face-off against the Calgary Dinos in the Battle of Alberta at Northstar Hyundai Arena.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youths 12 and under and $25 for a family pack.

This is the 101st season for the men’s hockey program at the University of Alberta and last year’s Canada West championship was the 50th in team history.
