The first Super Saturday tripleheader of the season at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club kicks off today at 12:30 p.m. between the third division men and the Clan.

Both teams are 2-2 but SARFC has one more bonus point than the Clan in the Edmonton Rugby Union table.

At 2 p.m. the SARFC women and the Lloydminster Reapers/Cold Lake Penguins butt heads in the ERU spring league.

Last year’s provincial second division champions are 3-1 and the first-year Reapers/Penguins are 1-3.

The grand finale is the 4 p.m. cage match between the fantastic firsts and the Clan in the Alberta Cup premier men’s fixtures.

The Clan tapped out in their last four bouts against SARFC.

The Labatt’s Cup provincial champions are tied for third at 2-1 with two bonus points and the Clan are 0-3 with three bonus points for seventh place out of eight teams.

Next Saturday is the grand re-opening and 30th anniversary of the SARFC fields. The festivities start at 8 a.m. with a junior rugby pancake breakfast, followed by the ERU junior festival from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. involving teams from U5 to U15.

The ceremonies kick off at 3 p.m. and will feature the Edmonton Police Service Pipes and Drums Band, members of the RCMP and remarks on the legacy and future of SARFC.

Matches are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. (third division men vs. Parkland Sharks), 1 p.m. (SARFC women vs. Crude/West) and 4:30 p.m. (firsts vs. Nor’Westers).

SARFC is providing additional seating and expanded food and beverage services for the event.

The 18th annual Fastball St. Albert Invitational Tournament is underway for 52 teams at the Meadowview and Henry Singer diamonds.

The host St. Albert Angels are represented by 10 teams.

The age divisions are U10, U12A, U12B, U14A, U14B, U16A, U16B and U18.

Sunday’s medal finals are 1:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.

The St. Albert Crude host the Okotoks Marauders tonight in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

Ball drop is 6 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

In the junior B Tier I division the Crude (3-7) are ranked fourth in the north and Okotoks (1-6) is fifth in the south.

The latest RMLL stats list Simon Hansen as the Crude’s top scorer with 16 goals and 26 points in nine games.
