Last week the Rangers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 win against first-place Victoria (10-2-2).

The third division men’s team visits the Leduc Crude (3-6) Friday in the Edmonton Rugby Union fixtures. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

The thirds (3-5) are coming off a 22-10 loss to the first-place Strathcona Druids (6-1-1) last week in St. Albert. Matt Jarvis and Jon Anderson scored tries. It was 10-5 Druids at halftime.

Saturday the seconds (5-2) are in Leduc to play the Crude (4-4) at 2 p.m. The fifth win in a row for the seconds was last week’s 19-0 decision against the Druids (3-6) in St. Albert.

Second place is also at stake Saturday in the Alberta Cup when the premier men’s provincial champions tackle the Calgary Saints (5-1-1) at 3:30 p.m. at Calgary Rugby Park. The firsts (5-3) are undefeated in five matches.

The senior B provincial final between the St. Albert Miners and the Calgary Knights opens this weekend at Performance Arena.

The ball drops Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.

The remaining playoff dates in the best-of-five series were unavailable at press time.

The winner represents Alberta at the Presidents’ Cup national championship, Aug. 29 to Sept. 5 at Cornwall Island, Ont. At the 2010 nationals, the Miners won two and lost four while finishing sixth overall

This year in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League the Miners (12-5-1) placed second and the Knights (8-10) were fourth.

In the season series the Miners defeated the Knights 9-5 in St. Albert and 10-7 in Calgary.

Both teams also swept their respective semifinal rounds. The Miners knocked off the third-place Edmonton Outlaws (10-7-1) and the Knights upset the first-place Okotoks Raiders (13-5) in three games.

Online entries close Sunday for the St. Albert Triathlon on Aug. 14.

As of Monday, 104 triathletes had registered for the sprint individual and team relay (750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike and five-km run) and try-a-tri (250m swim, 10-km bike, 2.5 km run).

Last year 216 competitors finished the race, as well as 34 who did the try-a-tri. The fastest male and female were Ryan Kohlenberg (59:29) and Lisa Graham (1:07:34 for 10th place overall) of St. Albert.
