The final online registration total for the 11th annual St. Albert Fall Challenge is 259 runners and walkers for Sunday’s competition on the Red Willow trail system.
The registrations include 132 half-marathon runners, 69 10-kilometre runners/walkers, 42 five-km runners/walkers and 16 half-marathon walkers.
Last year there were 354 finishers in the 21.1-km half-marathon run/walk, 10-km run/walk and five-km run/walk.
Start times at Kingswood Park are 8 a.m. for the half-marathon walk and 9 a.m. for the half-marathon run, 10-km run/walk and five-km run/walk.
The .5-km kids’ race goes at 11:30 a.m. and no pre-registration is required.
Last year in the half-marathon Mark Faas of Hanna repeated with a winning time of one hour, 21 minutes and 57 seconds and the fastest female for the third year in a row was Wietske Eikelenboom of St. Albert at 1:31:26 for 11th place overall out of 173 runners.

Metro Edmonton high school volleyball swings into action Monday for St. Albert’s division one senior women’s teams.
At 6:15 p.m. the St. Albert Skyhawks host the Harry Ainlay Titans and the Paul Kane Blues visit the Salisbury Sabres.
Wednesday at 4:45 p.m. the Blues play the Bev Facey Falcons in Sherwood Park and the Skyhawks entertain the Holy Trinity Trojans.
In women’s division two league play the Bellerose Bulldogs are in pool B and their season opener is Oct. 1.
The senior men’s teams at Bellerose, Paul Kane and St. Albert High are spiking the ball in division two and league play starts Oct. 1.
This is the first year for Edmonton public league teams in the Metro Edmonton High School Athletic Association.

SAPEC junior high volleyball serves up its annual tournament next weekend in St. Albert.
Paul Kane High School and Lorne Akins School host the boys’ matches and Bellerose Composite High School and William D. Cuts School are the venues for the girls’ matches.
The draw features 56 best-of-three matches, with 16 boys’ and 16 girls’ teams divided into four round robin pools.
The action starts Friday at 2 p.m. and the finals are Saturday afternoon.
Last year the Sturgeon Heights Eagles won the boys’ final and the top girls’ team was the Cuts Crusaders.
The defending SAPEC Tier 1 playoff champions are the Sir George Simpson Voyageurs’ boys and girls.
