There will be lots of action Saturday at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club (SARFC) as all three men’s teams take to the pitch.

First, the premier men resume their Alberta Cup season after a two-week break when they take on the Lep-Tigers Saturday at noon. Both squads have 3-3 records on the season, but the defending provincial champions from St. Albert are ahead in the standing thanks to the bonus points they’ve accrued.

After that, the second and third division squads host the Grande Prairie Centaurs at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively. St. Albert’s seconds are 2-2 on the year, while the Grande Prairie seconds are 0-5. In the third division, the Centaurs sport a record of 4-3, while St. Albert is struggling a bit at 2-4.

The second division women are also scheduled to take to the pitch on Saturday afternoon as they host the Grande Prairie Sirens at 2 p.m.

The team is coming off a close 10-7 loss to the Pirates this past Saturday and are 0-2 in the Edmonton Rugby Union’s second division so far this year.

There will be a little international flavour at SARFC tonight as the Alberta U18 boys team takes on a travelling team from Canford School in Dorset, England.

This will be the first time since 2009 that SARFC has hosted an international fixture.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., but could be moved up to 6 p.m. if conditions warrant.

The St. Albert Soccer Association (SASA) is honouring one of its biggest boosters this weekend with the first-ever Dieter Knobloch Memorial Adult Tournament, which runs from Friday to Sunday at the SASA grounds in Riel Park.

Knobloch passed away in the summer of 2010 after a long battle with cancer. He was a prominent figure in SASA, serving in roles such as president, facilities director, referee and coach.

As of Monday, there were 26 teams registered to play across four divisions: women’s competitive/recreational, co-ed, men’s competitive and men’s competitive/recreational.
