The St. Albert Soccer Association (SASA) is celebrating Canada with its 39th annual Canada Day Classic tournament, which started yesterday and runs until tomorrow.

A total of 22 boys’ teams will compete in four different divisions over the weekend, including U10, U12 Tier I, U12 Tier II and U14 Tier III.

Teams will be in town from as far away as Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray and Prince George, B.C. Medals will be handed out on Sunday morning. For more information or for detailed schedules, visit the SASA website www.stalbertsoccer.com.

The midget AAA St. Albert Cardinals have a tripleheader on deck this weekend as the Fort McMurray Oil Giants pay a visit to Legion Memorial Park. The teams will play two games today at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., and one more tomorrow at 10 a.m.

St. Albert is mired in 10th place in the 11-team Norwest League with a record of 3-12 on the season.

Both the junior A and senior B St. Albert Miners lacrosse teams are in Calgary this weekend as they continue the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League regular season.

The junior squad (6-9) has a pair of games scheduled for South Fish Creek Arena, taking on the Calgary Jr. Mounties today at 6:30 p.m. and the Okotoks Jr. Raiders tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the senior Miners, who are defending provincial senior B champions, will also set up camp at South Fish Creek Arena, taking on the Calgary Knights tonight at 9 p.m. and the Sr. Mounties tomorrow at 4 p.m.

The St. Albert Senior Cardinals will take to the diamond on Monday in Alberta West Central Baseball Association action as the Stony Plain Codgers come to town. Game time is 6:45 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.

The Cardinals (5-3) won the last meeting between the two teams on Monday, June 27, by a score of 8-5 and as of Thursday sat in a four-way tie for first place in the AWCBA alongside the Fort Saskatchewan Red Sox, Spruce Grove Eagles and Westlock Red Lions.

The St. Albert Tigers Black are at their home away from home this weekend as they play a pair of doubleheaders against teams from Red Deer in Fort Saskatchewan.

The Tigers go up against the Red Deer Stags at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. today and then take on the Red Deer Riggers at the same times tomorrow.
