More than 250 athletes from across the province are showcasing their skills at the annual St. Albert Challenge track and field meet this weekend at Fowler Athletic Park. The competitors range in age from eight to 80. The host St.

More than 250 athletes from across the province are showcasing their skills at the annual St. Albert Challenge track and field meet this weekend at Fowler Athletic Park.

The competitors range in age from eight to 80.

The host St. Albert Mustangs are represented by 45 athletes.

The meet consists of 138 events (69 for females and 69 for males) in the tykes, peewee, bantam, midget, youth and open divisions.

The event starts at 9 a.m. today and Sunday and wraps up at 5 p.m. both days.

The junior B female St. Albert Drillers host the Calgary Senior Cougars today in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

Ball drop is 12:30 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

The Drillers are 0-2 and the Cougars are 3-2-1 in the joint junior B/senior league.

Shayla Michayla is the top scorer for the defending junior B provincial champions with one goal and four assists and Marie-Eve Gautier is the team leader in goals with three.

The St. Albert Crude and Red Deer Rampage hook up today in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

Game time is 3:30 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

In the junior B Tier I standings the Rampage are ranked second at 5-0-1 and the Crude are third at 3-6.

In previous games against the defending provincial champions the Crude lost 7-5 and 6-4.

Simon Hansen of the Crude is the north division leader in goals with 16 and is second in points with 26.

Brody Tod’s 10 goals, Adam Hardinge’s 13 assists and Cam Ellingson’s 18 points also rank among the top division scorers.

Girls Baseball Day in Canada will be celebrated Friday at Legion Memorial Park.

Female players in the rally camp to bantam divisions are invited to attend the camp.

Members of the St. Albert Minor Baseball Association, Baseball Alberta, 2014 Women’s Team Canada, Alberta Open Division and bantam girls’ provincial team will lead the players through the fundamentals of baseball.

The 18th annual Fastball St. Albert Invitational Tournament is up to bat next weekend at the Meadowview and Henry Singer diamonds.

Fifty-three teams and more than 600 players from Alberta and British Columbia are expected to compete in the U10 to U18 age divisions.
