The St. Albert Soccer Association kicks off its 39th annual Canada Day Classic on Friday at 11 a.m.
Twenty-two teams are entered in the boys’ tier I, II and III tournament. The St. Albert Impact are represented by five teams in U10 development seven versus seven, U12 tier I and II and U14 tier III. Games will be played at Riel Park.
Teams from as far away as Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray and Prince George, B.C. will compete for medals. Finals are scheduled for Sunday morning.

After going 0-7 in the Edmonton Rugby Union women’s spring league, St. Albert kicks off its second division fixtures tonight against the Strathcona Druids 2. Game time is 7 p.m. at Lyn Davies Fields in Sherwood Park.
The spring league round robin determined the teams in Alberta premier and the Edmonton second division. St. Albert was outscored 432-36 in seven losses. Druids 2 finished fifth at 3-2. Last month they blasted St. Albert 55-7.
St. Albert’s last game was a 17-12 setback against the Pirates (1-6) June 18 at Ellerslie Rugby Park. It was one of the few matches St. Albert played with a starting 15, plus subs.
The St. Albert Cardinals are up to bat tonight against SEEBA 2 in the Norwest midget AAA league. Game time is 7 p.m. at Goldstick Park.
The Cardinals are 3-12 and SEEBA 2 is 5-9 in league play. SEEBA 1 is the top team at 15-1.
The St. Albert Miners host the last-place Spruce Grove Slash tonight in senior B lacrosse at Performance Arena. Ball drop is 8 p.m.
Last weekend the Miners (8-4-1) beat the Calgary Knights 9-5 and the Calgary Mounties 11-7 in St. Albert.
The 2010 provincial champions have won three in a row and five of their last six games.

The Drive For Five continues for the St. Albert Steel. Their goal is to sell 500 season tickets for the 2011/12 Alberta Junior Hockey League campaign.
Season ticket sales fell from 454 in the Steel’s AJHL debut in 2007/08 to 117 last season.
For less than $300, season ticket holders receive 30 home game tickets to use all at once or individually. Tickets are not dated.
