The Canadian National Oldtimers Baseball Championships are underway in the metro Edmonton area for 31 teams in the 35-plus, 44-plus and 50-plus divisions.
Venue diamonds are Legion Memorial Park in St. Albert, Telus Field, John Fry Park and Footz Field in Edmonton, Henry Singer Ball Park in Spruce Grove, Stony Plain and Sherwood Park.
The St. Albert Senior Cardinals and the Capital Tiger Padres, consisting of former senior AAA St. Albert Tigers, are in the 35-plus division.
Friday in pool D the Cardinals played Kindersley and the Lloydminster Twins and in pool C the Tigers Padres were up to bat against the Regina Drifters and the Brampton (Ont.) Pioneers. Scores were unavailable at press time.
Today at 12 p.m. the Cardinals face the Tillsonburg (Ont.) Oldsox at Telus Field and the Tiger Padres play the Fort Saskatchewan A’s in Sherwood Park.
Sunday in the 35-plus playoffs, the top two teams in the four pools qualify for the A bracket and the rest of the teams are in the B bracket.
The 35-plus A semifinals are 5:45 and 6:15 p.m. at Legion park.
Monday’s tournament finals are 9 a.m. (50-plus B at Legion park and 50-plus A at Telus Field), 12 p.m. (35-plus B at Legion park and 44-plus A at Telus Field) and 3 p.m. (35-plus A at Telus Field).
Defending their 2012 national titles are the Woodslee (Ont.) Orioles (35-plus A), Oakville (Ont.) Golden A’s (44-plus A), Dufferin-Simcoe (Ont.) Rockers (50-plus A) and the Pleasant Valley (N.S.) Lakers (50-plus B).

Game one in the best-of-five junior B Tier I final between the NAMLC Crude of St. Albert and the Calgary Mountaineers in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League goes today at 2 p.m. at Stu Peppard Arena.
Game two is Sunday at 5 p.m. at Stu Peppard and game three is Monday at 7 p.m. at Northstar Hyundai Arena.
If needed, game four is Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. in St. Albert and game five is Aug. 11 in Calgary.
The winner will represent Alberta at the Founders’ Cup nationals, Aug. 19 to 25 in Winnipeg.
In league play the Miners (14-5-1) finished first in the north and the Mountaineers (16-3-1) were the top team in the south.
In the playoffs the Miners are 4-2 and the Mountaineers are 4-0.
