The Canadian National Oldtimers Baseball Championships start Friday morning in the metro Edmonton area for 31 teams in the 35-plus, 44-plus and 50-plus divisions.
The St. Albert Senior Cardinals and the Capital Tiger Padres (former senior AAA St. Albert Tigers) are going for the gold in the 35-plus division.
The following teams are competing at the oldtimers nationals.
35-plus division
Pool A
Grimshaw Huskies, Medicine Hat Tigers, Westlock Red Lions and Woodslee (Ont.) Orioles.
Pool B
Bardo Athletics, Calgary Chinook, Lougheed Wildcats and Scarborough (Ont.) Maroons.
Pool C
Tiger Padres, Brampton (Ont.) Pioneers, Fort Saskatchewan A’s and Regina Drifters.
Pool D
St. Albert, Kindersley, Lloydminster Twins and Tillsonburg (Ont.) Oldsox.
44-plus division
Edmonton Expos, Kindersley Klippers, Medicine Hat Oilmen, Oakville (Ont.) Golden A’s and Regina Ghosts.
50-plus division
Pool A
Courtney (B.C.) Happy Islanders, Pleasant Valley (N.S.) Lakers, Provost, Sask. Sportsmen and Spruce Grove Eagles.
Pool B
B.C. Capitals, Dufferin-Simcoe (Ont.) Rockers, Red Deer Legends, Slave Lake Cats and Spring Lake Masters.
Seventy-seven games will be played at Legion Memorial Park in St. Albert, Telus Field, John Fry Park and Footz Field in Edmonton, Henry Singer Ball Park in Spruce Grove and Stony Plain and Sherwood Park.
Pool D games for the Cardinals are Friday at 11:45 a.m. versus Kindersley and 5:45 p.m. versus Lloydminster at Legion park and Saturday at 12 p.m. versus Tillsonburg at Telus Field.
Pool C games for the Tiger Padres are Friday at 9 a.m. versus Regina at Spruce Grove and 6 p.m. versus Brampton at Telus Field and Saturday at 12 p.m. versus Fort Saskatchewan in Sherwood Park.
The crossover playoffs are Sunday. In the 35-plus division, the top two teams in all four pools advance to the A bracket and the remaining teams compete in the B side.
The 35-plus A semifinals are 5:45 and 6:15 p.m. at Legion park.
Monday’s finals are 9 a.m. (50-plus B at Legion park and 50-plus A at Telus Field), 12 p.m. (35-plus B at Legion Park and 44-plus A at Telus Field) and 3 p.m. (35-plus A at Telus Field).
Back to defend their 2012 championship titles is Woodslee (35-plus A), Oakville (44-plus A), Dufferin-Simcoe (50-plus A) and Pleasant Valley (50-plus B).
