St. Albert’s premier men’s rugby team battles the Calgary Saints today in the Alberta Cup fixtures.

Kickoff is 4:30 p.m. at Lynn Davies Rugby Park in Sherwood Park.

The Saints (7-1) are ranked first and St. Albert (3-5) is fourth in the seven-team table.

Last month the Saints rebounded from a 25-19 halftime deficit to defeat St. Albert 40-25 in Calgary.

St. Albert is coming off its seventh loss in a row against the Calgary Hornets (6-1), the Labatt’s Cup provincial champions three of the last four years, 34-28 in Calgary.

In the Edmonton Rugby Union men’s second division, St. Albert (3-5) tackles the LA Crude (4-2-1) today at 2 p.m. in Leduc.

The St. Albert Miners resumed their senior B playoff series with the Calgary Mountaineers on Friday in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

The score from Calgary was unavailable at press time.

Game four in the best-of-five semifinal is today at 5 p.m. at Stu Peppard Arena.

If needed, game five is Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Northstar Hyundai Arena.

Last weekend in St. Albert the Mountaineers prevailed 11-10 in double overtime in game one and the Miners evened the series with a 14-13 victory.

The winner will play the defending champion Rockyview Knights or the Edmonton Outlaws in the best-of-five final to represent Alberta at the Presidents' Cup national championship, Aug. 26 to Sept. 1 at the Kahnawake Mohawk reserve in Quebec.

Last year the Miners lost the final to Rockyview in four games after winning the championship title the previous two years.

Game two in the best-of-three junior B Tier I north division final between the St. Albert-based NAMLC Crude and the Red Deer Rampage in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League goes tonight at 8 p.m. at Kinex Arena in Red Deer.

If needed, game three is Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

Friday’s score from game one in St. Albert was unavailable at press time.

The winner advances to the final against the Calgary Mountaineers or the Manitoba Gryphons, the host team for the Aug. 19 to 25 Founders’ Cup national championship in Winnipeg.

In the north standings the Crude (14-5-1) placed first and the Rampage (13-6-1) were second in the five-team division.

During the season series the Rampage posted wins of 9-7 and 8-7 in May and the Crude won the last two tilts 13-10 and the 12-10.
