St. Albert’s undefeated U17 and U19 men’s rugby teams scrum down tonight in the Edmonton Rugby Union.
The U17 match against the Nor’Westers (1-4) kicks off at 7 p.m. at Ellerslie Rugby Park.
The U17s improved to 6-0 in Saturday’s 32-5 victory over the winless Edson Axmen at Ellerslie.
Drew Grant ran in five tries and Austen McDonald scored one try and kicked a conversion against a gritty Edson side that needed some players from St. Albert to field a full side.
Last year the U17s finished 4-4 after losing the ERU final 24-3 to the Nor’Westers.
Earlier this season the U17s thumped the Nor’Westers 58-15.
At 8 p.m. the U19s tackle the Clansmen Blue (3-0) at Airways Park.
The U19s are 4-0 after going 5-1-1 last year, including the 29-14 loss to the Clan B team in the ERU final.
Meanwhile, the St. Albert ladies were 2-2 in the U17-U19 division prior to Tuesday’s contest against the Clanswomen (3-3). The score was unavailable at press time.
The St. Albert Stars finished their inaugural Alberta Football League regular season tied for third place at 3-3 after Sunday’s 17-12 loss to the undefeated Calgary Gators.
The defensive battle was a nail-bitter that went down to the wire in Calgary.
In the opening playoff round the Stars play the Lloydminster Vandals (1-5) Saturday at Clarke Park. Kickoff time was unavailable at press time.
In league play the Stars crushed the 2012 AFL and national champion Vandals 79-3.
