The Cardinals are coming off their second victory in 11 games, 9-7 against the Red Deer Braves on Sunday in St. Albert.

This weekend at the Medicine Hat tournament the Cardinals will play the Lethbridge Elks, Calgary Blues and Saskatoon Giants.

The junior A St. Albert Miners and senior B Spruce Grove Slash will clash tonight on the floor in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League. Ball drop is 8 p.m. at Performance Arena.

In league play the Miners are 2-6 and the Slash are 0-3-2. Earlier in the season the Miners beat the Slash 12-8 in Stony Plain.

Last weekend the Miners suffered a pair of losses against junior A team: 9-5 against the Calgary Mounties in St. Albert and 9-4 against the Raiders in Okotoks.

The Mounties fired 49 shots at netminder Scott Kavalinas. He also faced 52 shots in Okotoks.

Matt Mackenzie, Nick Amendt, Drew Deans, Darren Kinnear and Spencer Gelinas scored against the Mounties. Ryan Davis potted a pair against the Raiders. Eric Turner and Nils Thompson added singles.

The Miners went 0-for-8 overall on the power play in the two losses.

The 20th Spirit of the North Kenyukai Koshukai and Takai kicks into action Monday in St. Albert.

All activities for the weeklong seminars and tournament will take place at the Desa School of Karate and Servus Credit Union Place.

The Desa School of Karate, which provides instruction in traditional Okinawan karate, will be the host dojo for the biannual event under the direction of Sensei Manuel deSa, a sixth degree black belt.

More than 30 Senseis from around the world are expected to attend. Leading the team of Master instructors is Narahido Shinjo, an eighth degree black belt from Japan.

The bantam AAA St. Albert Cardinals don’t play ball until Tuesday after closing out their May schedule with a 5-3 win over the Lloydminster Braves on Sunday in Spruce Grove.

Game time is 7 p.m. against SEEBA in Edmonton.

The third league victory in a row by the Cardinals was highlighted by a three-run fifth inning against the Braves, powered by back-to-back hits by Aaron Larose and Cam Mazur.

Leadoff batter Sam Forster chipped in with two hits. Larose, Scott Millar and Erik Sabrowski were credited with RBIs.

Jackson Wark faced six batters in two innings of work and struck out four en route to the win.
