The St. Albert Track and Field Club will host the annual St. Albert Challenge May 28 and 29. The competition features seven age categories competing in track and field events at Fowler Park.

This year’s event will also serve as a qualifier for zone 5, 6 and 7 to compete in the 2011 Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games, which will be held in Fairview.

Two of St. Albert’s men’s rugby teams hit the pitch again Saturday with a pair of games.

The third division men’s squad will take the field first with a 2 p.m. start against the Edson Axmen (1-0).

The Alberta Cup first division men (0-2) will tackle the Calgary Hornets starting at 4 p.m. in St. Albert. The firsts are last year’s provincial champions and have qualified for the finals the past two seasons.

The midget AAA Cardinals will look to improve on a difficult start to the season with a game tonight at 6:30 p.m. against the Sherwood Park Gold (1-0) at Legion Memorial Park.

The Cardinals are off to a 1-5 start, good enough for ninth place in the Norwest league. This is the first season the Cardinals have played under Coach Chamara Jayasekera.

Rugby playoffs are under way in the metro Edmonton High School Athletic Conference.

In the men’s premier quarter-finals, Bellerose (3-0) will take on Fort Saskatchewan with a 4:45 p.m. start time at St. Albert.

The Sturgeon Spirits (2-1) will kick off their match against Beaumont (3-0) at 4:45 p.m. at Pirates Field.

In the city conference semifinals, Paul Kane (1-2) will face off against Archbishop Jordan (0-3) at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club.

The Battle of St. Albert will take place on Friday to kick off rodeo weekend in the Sunburst Baseball League.

The St. Albert Tigers Black and the St. Albert Tigers Orange square off in their first game of the season. The first pitch is at 8 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park. Tigers Black is a senior AAA team and Tigers Orange is a junior AAA squad that will challenge for a berth at westerns. The goal for Tigers Orange is to play in the North Central Alberta Baseball League next year.

At the senior AAA provincials in August, the Tigers Baseball Association will enter an all-star team of players from both the Black and Orange line-ups.
