Rugby tripleheader
Rugby rivals St. Albert and the Clan will duke it out today at Airways Park.
Kickoff times are noon in the women’s spring league, 2 p.m. for the second division men and 4 p.m. for the Alberta Cup premier men.
In last year’s semifinals against the Clan, St. Albert posted victories of 29-10 by the seconds and 20-17 by the firsts.
The seconds are making their season debut today. The firsts are coming off an embarrassing 29-17 loss to the Druids.
Storm vs. Parkland
The St. Albert Storm huddle up tonight against the Parkland Predators in the midget spring league’s tier II final. Kickoff is 6 p.m. at Johnny Bright Park.
The Storm (1-2-1) finished third and Parkland (1-3) placed fourth in the tier I/II division. The Storm’s only win was the come-from-behind 9-7 decision against Parkland last month in Spruce Grove.
The Storm closed out league play with losses of 28-0 against the first-place Edmonton Mustangs (4-0), last year’s tier I playoff winners, and 14-0 against the second-place Edmonton Chargers (3-1).
The Storm are the defending tier II champions.
SAMSL soccer
The St. Albert Men’s Soccer League kicks off its 31st year Sunday. The following matches will be played at the Riel Park turf field.
1 p.m. CSKA Blues FC vs. AC Youngboys
3 p.m. St. Albert United vs. Arsenal
5 p.m. GSE vs. SA City
7 p.m. Crossfire vs. Chester City
Last year Arsenal defeated United 2-0 for their first playoff cup in team history. Arsenal finished 8-6-3 overall after placing fourth in league play at 4-5-3.
SAWSL soccer
Sunday’s season opener for the St. Albert Women’s Soccer League features five division one matches and four division two matches.

Last year Mavericks 09 won the division one pennant at 17-1 and finished fourth at tier IV provincials. It was the best result by a SAWSL team at provincials since 2005, when the Morinville Ladies earned bronze.
Senior Cardinals
The first home game of the season for the St. Albert Cardinals in the Alberta West Central Baseball Association is Monday against the Spruce Grove Eagles. The first pitch goes at 6:45 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.
Last year the Cardinals finished fourth in the seven-team standings at 9-8.
The league consists of players aged 30 years and older.
