The St. Albert Stars tackle the Calgary Wolfpack today in the Alberta Football League.

Kickoff is 2 p.m. at Clarke Park.

The Stars are 1-1 in their inaugural AFL season after beating the Edmonton Stallions 23-1 and losing 22-11 to the Grande Prairie Drillers.

The division one powerhouses in the St. Albert Women’s Soccer League square off Sunday at Forest Park field.

Kickoff is 5 p.m. between Mavericks 09 (5-0) and the Morinville Ladies (3-1).

Earlier this month the Mavericks scored three times in the first half en route to a 3-1 win over Morinville in the first meeting this season between the perennial pennant contenders for a provincial berth.

The loss was Morinville’s fifth in a row against the Mavericks, last year’s pennant winners, playoff cup champions and provincial Tier IV bronze medallists. The last victory was 5-2 in the second-last game of the 2011 regular season to move past the Mavericks into first place in the standings.

In the SAWSL Golden Boot division one scoring race, Jen Bruinsma of the Mavericks is the top gun with six. Mel Duro of Morinville and the Mavericks’ Suzanne Schulz, last year’s Golden Boot winner, have five goals apiece.

Sunday the St. Albert Miners host the Okotoks Raiders in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

Ball drop is 5 p.m. at Northstar Hyundai Arena.

In the senior B standings the second-place Miners are 7-4 and the fifth-place Raiders are 1-7-1.

The Miners are coming off their second win in five games, 15-7 over the last-place Spruce Grove Slash (1-9) Wednesday at Grant Fuhr Arena.

The next North Central Alberta Baseball League game for the St. Albert Junior Cardinals is Tuesday versus the Edmonton Warriors.

The first pitch is 7:15 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.

The Cardinals are 4-4 in their first NACBL season.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals are competing at the 10th annual Peter DeVries Invitational Tournament.

Today at John Fry Park the Cardinals play the Spruce Grove White Sox at 12 p.m. and the midget AAA St. Albert Cardinals at 6 p.m.

Friday’s score against SEEBA 1 was unavailable at press time.
