The second annual Get Kids Playing charity mixed slo-pitch tournament in support of KidSport Alberta and KidSport St. Albert is up to bat this weekend at Meadowview Diamonds.

Tyler Bunz, a St. Albert minor hockey product and Edmonton Oilers’ draft pick, is once again organizing the National Softball Association sanctioned tournament.

This season with the Stockton Thunder in the East Coast Hockey League, Bunz posted a 16-16-4 record with one shutout, 3.35 GAA and .886 save percentage.

The tournament features 20 teams, a home run derby and the DRT band will perform live today.

Today the St. Albert Cardinals host SEEBA in a peewee AAA doubleheader at Legion Memorial Park.

Game times are 12 and 3 p.m.

In the Baseball Alberta standings the Cardinals are ranked second at 8-3 and SEEBA is sixth at 2-5.

The first tilt between the St. Albert Miners and the Rockyview Knights of Airdrie since the 2012 provincial final is tonight’s main event in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

Ball drop is 6 p.m. at Northstar Hyundai Arena.

The Miners were 5-3 entering Friday’s contest against the Edmonton Outlaws (4-3-1). The score was unavailable at press time.

The Miners limped into the game after suffering losses of 9-7 to the Outlaws (4-3-1) in St. Albert and 9-8 to the last-place Spruce Grove Slash (1-8) at Grant Fuhr Arena.

The Knights are 7-0 as the defending provincial champions.

Last year the Knights eliminated the Miners, winners of the last two provincial titles, in game four in the best-of-five final. The injury-riddled Miners surrendered five shorthanded goals in the third period in the series-clinching 12-7 win by the Knights.

Tonight’s grudge match between the Arch Angels of the St. Albert Heavenly Rollers Derby League and the Calgary Cut Throat Car Hops starts at 7 p.m. at Servus Credit Union Place.

Last year the Car Hops beat the Arch Angels in a close contest in St. Albert.

The doors open at 6 p.m. at the Pizza 73 fieldhouse. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Youths 10 and under get in free.

Tickets are available at www.stahrderby.com/tickets/.

Partial proceeds from the bout will be donated to the Lo-Se-Ca Foundation.
