Tonight the St. Albert Junior Cardinals are gunning for their third-straight victory in the North Central Alberta Baseball League.

The first pitch is 7:15 p.m. against the winless Edmonton Indians at Legion Memorial Park.

The first NCABL win by the Cardinals (2-3) in team history was 8-2 over the Indians on May 21 at John Fry Park.

Last Thursday left-fielder Matt Biollo slugged two home runs while driving in four RBIs in the 11-2 triumph against the Camrose Axemen (2-4) in St. Albert.

Third-baseman Hayden Chies batted 3-for-4 with one double.

McLean Cruthers allowed one earned run while striking out two. He didn’t walk a batter while going the distance in the seven-inning contest.

The Cardinals scored four times in the second to lead 4-1 and after five it was 6-2.

The Cardinals out-hit the Axemen 14-6. The home team left eight runners on base, compared to five for the visitors.

Sunday the Cardinals host the Stony Plain Mets (3-1) in a doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m.

The struggling St. Albert Miners run the floor on consecutive nights this weekend in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

Friday the senior B team plays the Edmonton Outlaws at 8 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena and Saturday they host the provincial champion Rockyview Knights of Airdrie at 6 p.m. at Northstar Hyundai Arena.

The Miners (5-3) are coming off losses of 9-7 to the Outlaws (4-2-1) in St. Albert and 9-8 to the last-place Spruce Grove Slash (1-8) at Grant Fuhr Arena.

Last year in the best-of-five provincial final the Knights (7-0) knocked off the injury-riddled Miners, the two-time defending champions, in four games.

The next bout for the St. Albert Heavenly Rollers Derby League is Saturday, when the Arch Angels host the Calgary Roller Derby Association’s Cut Throat Car Hops at Servus Credit Union Place.

The doors open at 6 p.m. and first whistle goes at 7 p.m. at the Pizza 73 fieldhouse.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Youths 10 and under get in free.

Tickets are available from any derby girl or at http://stahrderby.com/tickets/.

Partial proceeds will be donated to the Lo-Se-Ca Foundation.

Last year the Car Hops narrowly defeated the Arch Angels.
