Friday 60 soccer players from the St. Albert Impact U12 boys’ and girls’ program and Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School in Edmonton’s inner city will participate in a fun Mini Nations tournament from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Friday 60 soccer players from the St. Albert Impact U12 boys’ and girls’ program and Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School in Edmonton’s inner city will participate in a fun Mini Nations tournament from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Clarke Park.

Players will represent 10 countries in a series of scrimmages to promote community awareness, sportsmanship and the spirit of giving.

Donations will be collected for the Mother Teresa School’s clothing and food banks. Cash donations will be accepted in support of the Free Footie Soccer program.

The St. Albert Stars kick off their inaugural Alberta Football League season Friday against the Edmonton Stallions at 7 p.m. at Clarke Park.

In exhibition action last month the Stars beat the Central Alberta Buccaneers 29-27 in Lacombe.

This weekend the St. Albert Rams Lacrosse Club welcomes 73 boys’ and girls’ teams to its annual Jeremy Richardson Memorial Baggataway Tournament.

The age range is five to 17 in the mini-tyke to midget levels.

The Rams club is represented by 13 teams.

More than 120 games will be played in St. Albert, starting 4:30 p.m. Friday. The medal rounds are Sunday afternoon at the Akinsdale and Kinex arenas and Servus Credit Union Place.

The 16th annual Fastball St. Albert Invitational Tournament starts Friday night at the Lorne Akins and Mission diamonds in St. Albert and Henry Singer Park in Edmonton.

The 77-game schedule features 38 girls’ teams from across Alberta and Saskatoon.

The St. Albert Angels are entered in the U10 (five teams), U12 (seven teams), U14A (eight teams), U14B (eight teams) and U16 (six teams) divisions.

The U16 and U18 (three teams) divisions will combine for round-round play but will compete for separate medals in the playoffs.

The St. Albert Soccer Association hosts its annual youth soccerfests this weekend at Riel Recreation Park.

Saturday the Timbits Jamboree runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features 712 players and 160 coaches on 58 teams in the U4, U5 and U6 divisions.

Sunday the Active Start Soccer Festival goes from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and includes 390 players and 82 coaches on 37 teams in the U8 division.
