The firsts are 1-1 this season after clubbing the Calgary Irish 57-3 last Saturday in Leduc.

Sunday the Mavericks 09 and the Morinville Ladies renew their division one rivalry in the St. Albert Women’s Soccer League.

Kickoff is 5 p.m. at the Forest Park north field.

The Mavericks (17 GF/4 GA) and Morinville (11 GF/2 GA) are 2-0.

Last year the Mavericks beat Morinville four times, including the playoff final to finish 16-0 in league play and 19-1 overall as the Tier IV provincial bronze medallists.

In the regular season Morinville was 11-4 for second place after capturing the 2011 pennant at 17-0-1.

This weekend the St. Albert Junior Cardinals are playing in the North Central Alberta Baseball League sanctioned Harvey J. Doherty Memorial Tournament at Keller Field in Westlock.

The Red Birds are up to bat at 9 a.m. against the Westlock Red Lions.

The Cardinals (1-3) are coming off their first NCABL win of the season, 8-2 over the Edmonton Indians (0-3).

McLean Cruthers tossed a three hitter while striking out six and walking one without giving up an earned run over five innings.

Lukas Millions batted three-for-four and Matt Biollo, Nate Coffin and Ian Pollard had two hits apiece. Pollard also drove in two runs.

The next game is Thursday versus the Camrose Axemen (2-3) at 7:15 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.

Sunday is the deadline to register for the 22nd annual St. Albert Kids of Steel Triathlon at Fountain Park Recreation Centre.

Youths between four and 19 years old can compete in the June 9 triathlon as an individual or as a team on a swim-bike-run course that varies in distance according to age group.

The Kids of Steel is also the provincial championships for junior elite (16 to 19) and U23 triathletes. Distances are 750-metre swim, 18.4-km bike (draft legal) and five-km run.

Last year 299 triathletes and 12 teams finished the race.
