Two exciting games are coming up for your St. Albert Senior B Miners in Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League action.
The Miners will be hosting the Spruce Grove Slash under head coach Paul Koch tonight at Servus Credit Union Place from 8 to 10 p.m. Spruce Grove will be looking to improve upon their disappointing 3-6 start to the season, including a loss in their last game: a 14-10 decision to the Beaumont Outlaws May 11.
The Miners, under head coach Jay Viep and assistant coach Todd Lorenz, are playing a solid game, enough for second place in the league with a 3-1 record. The Miners last game was a close 8-7 loss in Okotoks; not bad, considering the team drove across most of Alberta and back to play that match.
If you can’t catch tonight’s game, make sure you clip this Gazette and hang it on your fridge: Sr. B Miners versus the visiting Calgary Mountaineers Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Servus Place. A great way to spend an afternoon watching your local lacrosse players host Calgary, under head coach John Kilbridge, who currently have a 2-1 record and are right behind St. Albert in the standings.
Surging in popularity in schools across Alberta, rugby in the Metro Edmonton High School Athletic Association is looking forward to its spring playoffs soon.
According to the MEHSAA website May 20, three St. Albert teams have playoff games scheduled, some tonight. The top six teams play in the Premier conference championships, while the next four teams play in the City conference finals.
In the City conference, the Bellerose Bulldogs have semi-final action tonight, 4:45 p.m. on the road against the Bev Facey Pirates. The City championship will be played May 30, venue and teams to be announced.
In Premier conference action, the Paul Kane Blues play a quarter final game against Beaumont on the road today at Lynn Davies field at 4:45 p.m. The Sturgeon Spirits, first place in pool D, have a bye and will face the winner of the above game in semi-final action May 27. The Premier championship will be held May 30.
Boys of summer
It was a late spring, so baseball fans are eager for action. They won’t be disappointed by catching the St. Albert AAA Midget Cardinals vs. SEEBA 2 tonight, 6:30 p.m. at John Friy Park.
The very strong St. Albert team has a record of 5-1 in the Norwest Midget AAA League according to Baseball Alberta May 20.
The forecast calls for a cloudy, warm 22 degrees, a great night for baseball.
Follow that up with the Cards hitting the road Thursday to face the strong Sherwood Park Dukes at 6:30 p.m. The Dukes are looking to improve on their 5-2 record as of May 20. The forecast calls for a few clouds and a high around 21 degrees for this top-notch tilt.
Sunburst Baseball League
More great baseball action is coming up for the St. Albert Tigers as they hit the road to face the Fort Saskatchewan A’s at 6:45 p.m. The late spring means most teams have barely played any league games yet.
But the Sunburst League and Baseball Alberta have joined to create the highest level of amateur baseball in Alberta for players 19 and over. Baseball fans won’t be disappointed.
Mark on your schedule Friday, 7:30 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park for your St. Albert Tigers home opener versus the visiting Red Deer Riggers.
