The fundraiser honours the memory of Don MacMillan, a St. Albert resident who passed away of lung cancer on March 19, 2011 at age 61.

Donations in the fight against lung cancer can be made to www.lungcancercanada.ca or at MAC Insurance at No. 8, 44 St. Thomas Street in St. Albert.

The Team MAC players are Derek MacMillan, Mark Hull, Brian Hooper, Adam Bontus, Brett Smith, Kelly Hilkewich, Dan Braund, Jordan Hooper, Scott Savoie, Curtis Martin, Mark Thompson, Jordan Chorneyko, Dave Wood, Marc Lutes, Moe Hopperscot and Corey Osland.

The Team MACSON players are Damian MacMillan, Tyler Schell, Mike Thompson, Sean Tymkow, Scott Martin, Cam Kuzyk, Jeff Filewich, Keir McIntyre, Billy Pratt, Lyndon Godlien, Cam Hawtin, Kevin Pollitt, Shawn Thompson, Ryan Drake and Sean Fisher.

The ICTF Western Canadian Taekwondo Championships kick into action today at 9 a.m. at Northstar Hyundai Arena.

The martial arts competition starts with the Shadow Warriors and the young regular belts, followed by each age group from youngest to oldest. The event wraps up with adult colour belts and black-belt sparring.

The St. Albert Miners run the floor today at the Blackfalds Multiplex in exhibition action in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

The junior A Miners play the junior B Red Deer Rampage at 10 a.m. and the junior A Sherwood Park Titans at 4:30 p.m.

The senior B tilt between the Miners and Okotoks Raiders is 6:45 p.m.

The May 3 senior B league opener between the Miners and Edmonton Outlaws is 8 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena.

The first junior A game for the Miners is May 11 against the Calgary Mountaineers at 4 p.m. at Stu Peppard Arena.

The second annual Gareth Jones High School Rugby Tournament is tentatively slated to kick off next Saturday.

The field location was still up in the air at press time.

Last year’s round-robin format featured the men’s and women’s teams from Bellerose, Paul Kane and St. Albert High. Matches were 17-minute halfs.

The tournament is named in honour of the first president of the St. Albert Rugby Football Club.
