As of Monday, 402 entries had been received online for the 28th annual St. Albert 10-Mile Road Race on April 14.
The sign-up fee is $65 for individuals and $60 for school teams of three runners apiece.
However, there is no guarantee you will get the shirt size you ordered, as the order for shirts went in March 31.
A downloadable registration form is available through www.starrt.com, which can be filled in and mailed out. It can be used for individual and team registrations. Any mailed-in registrations will not show up on the web at this time as they haven’t been input into the system.
The deadline to register is April 13.
“Unfortunately we cannot accept walk-up registrations (on the morning of the 10-miler) due to the nature of the bib and timing chip system that we are using,” said race director Mark Fraser.
Last year 554 entries were processed for the 10-miler and the inaugural six-kilometre fun run.
Fraser is hoping for around 450 entries.
The all-time registration mark for the 10-miler is 976 in 1998.
Race time is 9:30 a.m. on Grandin Road across from Grandin Park Plaza. The fun run starts approximately 10 minutes after the start of the main race or once all of the 10-mile competitors have gone through the starting gate.
The 10-miler is hosted by the St. Albert Road Runners and Triathlon Club and is part of the provincial Timex road race series.
2012 winners
Last year’s King of the Road champion, Taylor Murphy of Edmonton, and the female winner, Shannon Maisano of St. Albert, haven’t registered yet for the 10-miler.
Murphy’s winning time was 54 minutes and one second and Maisano was the top female at 63 minutes and three seconds.
Last year 425 runners (236 males and 189 females) finished the 10-miler and 17 runners completed the race in less than one hour.
Volunteers
Individuals interested in volunteering for the 10-miler can contact volunteer coordinator Joanne Graham at [email protected] or Fraser at [email protected] and once organizers have their information they will be assigned a position for the race.
“We can always use more volunteers,” Fraser said.
All volunteers will receive a race day volunteer T-shirt designed by local artist Alan Nuttall.
Prize money
The fastest male and female will be awarded $500, the second fastest male and female will earn $300 and the third fastest male and female get $100 apiece.
Timex watches will be presented to the fastest three males and females and the top three finishers in each age-group category will also receive awards.
The first male and female to break the course record will pocket $300. The time to beat is 50:46 by Matt Norminton of Edmonton in 2007. The fastest female time of 54:36 was set in 2005 by Aster Demissie of Edmonton.
A multitude of door prizes will also be up for grabs for all participants.
