The St. Albert Storm make their season debut today in the midget spring league jamboree at Fuhr Sports Park in Spruce Grove.
Times for the controlled scrimmages are 10:30 a.m. against the Parkland Predators, 11:45 a.m. against the Edmonton Chargers, 12:30 p.m. against the Millwoods Grizzlies and 1:15 p.m. against the Battle River Shock.
It’s only the third outdoor session for the Storm line-up of Grade 9, 10 and 11 players.
The Capital District Minor Football Association’s regular season is tentatively scheduled to kick off next weekend.
Last year the Storm finished 2-4 overall as the Tier II playoff champions. Both wins were against the Grizzlies, including the 34-14 final.
The Canadian Ringette Championships start Monday in Fredericton, N.B. for several St. Albert players.
Forty-four teams from across the country will compete in three divisions: U16 (16 teams and four from Alberta), U19 (20 teams and four from Alberta) and the National Ringette League (eight teams and one from Alberta in the 19-plus league).
The St. Albert connection with Zone 5 Grit in U19 features netminder Anj Grewal, defencemen Simran Grewal, Molly Clark, Lauren MacBeath and Hannah Marthinsen and forwards Janelle Wilk, Alyssa Ricioppo, Molly Chorney and Brittany Kraychy.
The Edmonton Elite rosters include forwards Ashley Biggar (U19) and Sara DeRose (U16).
The bronze medal games are Friday night and the divisional finals are Saturday.

The first annual Donnie MAC Cup charity hockey game will be played April 21 at the West Edmonton Mall Ice Palace to raise money in the fight against lung cancer.
Thirty-two players, mostly St. Albert Minor Hockey Association alumni and coaches, have confirmed their participation.
The game between MAC and MACSON starts at 4:15 p.m. and features three 20-minute periods.
The fundraiser will be held in memory of Don MacMillan, a St. Albert resident who passed away of lung cancer on March 19, 2011 at age 61.
