Game three in the best-of-five Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League senior B playoff between the St. Albert Miners and Spruce Grove Slash goes Friday at 8 p.m. at Northstar Hyundai Arena.
The Miners will also host game four Saturday at 8 p.m.
Game five, if needed, is Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at Grant Fuhr Arena.
Last weekend in Spruce Grove the Slash won the series opener 15-13 and in game two the Miners rebounded with an 8-4 victory.
In league play the Miners (9-6-1) finished 3-2 against the Slash (11-5), the host team for the Aug. 27 to Sept. 2 Presidents’ Cup national championship.
The Slash roster features several graduates of the St. Albert Rams’ minor lacrosse program who went on to play for the junior A Miners.
The winner will battle the first-place Rockyview Knights (13-3) or the Calgary Mountaineers (6-10) in the best-of-five provincial final.
The Miners are the reigning provincial champions. At nationals the last two years they posted identical 2-4 records.
Tonight the Zone 5 Black Gold/Yellowhead baseball team plays Zone 6 Edmonton at Legion Memorial Park in preparation for the Alberta Summer Games this weekend in Lethbridge.
Game time is 8:30 p.m. on the midget diamond at Legion Memorial Park.
Representing the bantam AAA St. Albert Cardinals on Zone 5 are Riley Fisher, Mason Libich, Cam Mazur, Tanner McLean-Poll, Matt Quartel, Erik Sabrowski and Jackson Wark.
The Impact Rangers (1-9-1) play the first-place DV Oldboys Green/Gold at 6:30 p.m., followed by the match between Impact 1 (6-6-1) and Africana FC (6-5-1) at 8:15 p.m.
The last-place Rangers are in danger of being relegated into division one. They are the lowest-scoring team in premier with 10 goals in 12 games and have let in a league-high 34.
Impact 1 is within striking distance of third place in the nine-team standings.
The next Sunburst Baseball League home game for the St. Albert Tigers is Friday against the Parkland White Sox.
The first pitch is 8 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.
The Tigers (2-8) and Red Deer Stags (2-10) share last place in the five-team division. The top four teams qualify for the senior AAA provincials next month. In previous years any team could enter the national qualifier tournament.
Parkland (7-4), tied for second in the standings, is 2-1 against the Tigers this season. This is the first year in the Sunburst circuit for the Spruce Grove-based team after competing in the North Central Alberta Baseball League.
