Both the junior A and senior B St. Albert Miners are in action Wednesday night, with the junior A squad hosting its home opener and looking for its first win of the young season.

The junior A Miners will square off against the Edmonton Eclipse at Northstar Hyundai Arena at Servus Credit Union Place. The game starts at 8 p.m.

The junior A squad has played only one game so far this season, a 13-9 loss to the Raiders at Okotoks Centennial on May 12.

Meanwhile, the St. Albert Senior Miners playing in the senior B league of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League will be in Spruce Grove to take on home Slash at Grant Fuhr Arena. Ball-drop is at 7:30.

The Miners are the two-time defending provincial champions and are coming off a 20-9 annihilation of the Outlaws May 5 in front of the home St. Albert crowd in their only game to date. The Slash are 1-1 on the season and will be hosting the 2012 Presidents’ Cup national championship Aug. 27 to Sept. 2. The tournament will feature teams from six leagues across Canada.

The Grande Prairie Rage N Fyre will have their work cut out for them Saturday when they visit the St. Albert Heavenly Rollers at 7 p.m. at Servus Credit Union Place.

The event is billed as “Hell Hath No Fury,” and will feature Force Pro Wrestling as the half-time show.

Sturgeon and St. Albert teams will be scrumming down Wednesday and Thursday night in the metro Edmonton high school rugby semifinals in both the premier and city conferences.

For the men, Sturgeon will take on Bev Facey at 4:45 p.m. at Pirates field in the premier conference semifinal. Sturgeon finished the season with a record of 3-0, scoring 118 points while allowing only 12.

The winner advances to the premier final May 30 at Ellerslie. They will face the winner of the second semifinal match-up between Beaumont and Salisbury.

Also on Wednesday, St. Albert will have home field advantage against Leduc in their semifinal at 4:45. The winner plays the victor of John Paul II and Archbishop Jordan.

The women’s premier and conference semifinals go Thursday with Sturgeon playing Archbishop O’Leary at Pirates field and Paul Kane taking on Bev Facey at Lynn Davies. Both matches start at 4:45.

In the city conference semifinals, Bellerose played St. Francis Xavier Tuesday. The score was unavailable at press time.

The senior AAA tigers take the mound against the Parkland White Sox Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Henry Singer Park in Sunburst Baseball League action. The Tigers first game of the season was Tuesday night against the Red Deer Riggers. The score was unavailable at press time.

The St. Albert Impact Rangers host the Edmonton Warriors Thursday night on their home turf in Riel starting at 6:30. The St. Albert Impact 1 take the field after the Rangers as they host the KC Trojans at 8:15.
