Teams consist of two players, male or female, of any age. They can stick deliver or slide deliver. Each team throws six rocks per end and there is no sweeping between the hog lines.

Games are six ends and the average playing time is one hour.

The inaugural St. Albert Skyhawks invitational basketball tournament tips off Thursday at the SkyDome.

In the women’s division, the Skyhawks play the Strathcona Christian Academy Eagles at 10:45 a.m. The Skyhawks are the No. 1 ranked 3A team in Alberta and the two-time defending provincial champions.

At 2:15 p.m. the Sturgeon Spirits tangle with the McNally Tigers.

In the men’s division, the Skyhawks battle the rival Bellerose Bulldogs at 12:30 p.m. The Skyhawks are ranked seventh in 3A.

Saturday’s finals start at 5:30 p.m. for the women and 7:15 p.m. for the men.

The tournament draw consists of eight women’s and seven men’s senior teams.

The Fowler Classic junior high school basketball tournament hoops it up Thursday at Richard S. Fowler school and Ecole Secondaire Saint Marguerite d’Youville (ESSMY).

At 1:30 p.m. the Fowler Falcons host Greystone in the boys’ division and the ESSMY Leopards entertain Louis St. Laurent in the girls’ division.

The tournament draw of eight boys’ and eight girls’ teams includes the Vincent J. Maloney Marauders and Sir George Simpson Voyageurs.

Saturday’s finals are 1:30 p.m. for the girls and 3 p.m. for the boys at Fowler school.

Three players will represent the St. Albert Raiders at the 23rd annual Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League all-star game Sunday.

Forwards Trace Elson and Kevin Miller and defenceman Ty Stanton were named to the north all-star roster. Elson was a first-team all star selection.

Game time is 1:30 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena.

Meanwhile, Raiders’ forward Thomas Foster, 15, was called up by the Vancouver Giants and played against his 19-year-old brother, T.J., in Saturday’s 3-2 win against the Edmonton Oil Kings at Rexall Place. T.J. is a former Raiders’ forward in his fourth year with the Oil Kings.

The Fosters hail from Slave Lake.
