Saturday the Edmonton Oilers Alumni and the RCMP will face-off in support of the families of Const. David Wynn and Auxiliary Const. Derek Bond.
Game time is 7:15 p.m. at Go Auto Arena and admission is free.
Ryan Smyth, Jason Strudwick and Fernando Pisani are among the former Oilers participating.
All monies raised will go to the RCMP family support fund established in the aftermath of the shootings of Wynn and Bond in St. Albert.
Spectators can participate in the chuck-a-puck contest during the second period intermission or by making a cash donation onsite.
Wynn, 42, was shot in the head and never regained consciousness and died in an Edmonton hospital on Jan. 21.
Bond, 49, suffered bullet wounds to his right arm and torso and was later released from hospital.
The three-on-three game prior to the fundraiser features Wynn’s son, Matt, in net for one of the teams.
Parking will be at a premium at Servus Credit Union Place on Saturday night because of the trade show. The south doors will also be closed and the entrance is through the west doors.
Thursday is the deadline to register online for the Landrex St. Albert Road Race on Sunday.
As of Monday, 280 runners were confirmed through www.zone4.ca for the Tech Shop 10-miler (226), the inaugural Sturgeon Valley Athletic Club 10-kilometre race (33) and the Active Physio Works five-km (21), which replaces the six-km event the last two years.
Last year, 192 males and 134 females finished the 10-miler and 16 runners completed the six-km distance.
Last year’s 10-mile champion was Francois Leboeuf of Edmonton at 53 minutes and 44 seconds and the fastest female was Emily Setlack of Cold Lake at 59:50 for 14th place overall.
Fifteen runners finished the 10-miler in under one hour.
The new start and finish line is on Sir Winston Churchill Avenue across from the St. Albert Curling Club, the race-day venue headquarters.
The 10-miler starts at 9:30 a.m. and the 10-km and five-km go at 9:35 a.m.
The 10-mile course remains the same except runners will do the south loop first instead of the north loop.
The 10-km and five-km runners will head in the opposite direction of the 10-miler.
