League play resumes tonight for the St. Albert Raiders in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.

Faceoff is 7:45 p.m. against the KC Pats (5-11-6) at Bill Hunter Arena.

It’s the first game for the Raiders after going 5-1 and reaching the semifinals at the Mac’s tournament in Calgary.

In the north division the Raiders (17-6-2) trail the first-place Leduc Oil Kings (19-5-1) by three points. The Kings, the host team for the 2012 Telus Cup national championship, beat the Raiders twice this season by scores of 1-0.

Meanwhile, right-winger Trace Elson was named to the first team north all-star line-up for the Feb. 5 all-star game at Bill Hunter Arena. Elson is tied for 14th place in league scoring with 12 goals and 14 assists in 19 games. His 26 points ranks third on the Raiders.

The St. Albert Flyers skate twice this weekend in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.

Tonight at 7:30 p.m. the Flyers (12-5-4) play the Canadian Athletic Club (9-6-5) at Callingwood Arena.

Sunday the Flyers visit the Camrose Vikings (2-17-2) at 4:30 p.m.

The Flyers are ranked second in the north conference, one point up on the third-place SSAC Bulldogs (12-4-3) and Spruce Grove Saints (12-6-3).

Paul Lovsin leads the Flyers and the conference in scoring with 21 goals and 40 points in 20 games. Brett Smythe is tied for second spot with 30 points in 18 games.

The top team in the Alberta Major Bantam Female Hockey League hosts the Lloydminster Ice Cats on Sunday at Performance Arena

Puck drop is 11 a.m. between the St. Albert Raiders (13-2-3) and Lloydminster (7-7-4).

The Raiders are led by Megan Lalor’s league-high 18 goals and 26 points in 18 games. She is one of 11 Raiders on the Zone 5 Black Gold/Yellowhead team for the 2012 Alberta Winter Games, Feb. 9-12 at Stony Plain, Spruce Grove and Parkland County.

Lalor was also called up by the midget AAA St. Albert Slash for the Mac’s tournament last week and had one assist in four games.

Entries are being accepted for the Mission Liquor Mart Mixed Bonspiel, Jan. 25-29 at the St. Albert Curling Club.

The $240 entry fee includes a Mexican dinner on Saturday. Every rink is guaranteed three games.

A limbo contest, cash prizes and a draw for a liquor basket valued at $500 are also part of the fun.
