The opening draw in the Solo Liquor Mixed Bonspiel is 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the St. Albert Curling Club.
Sunday’s final starts at 4 p.m.
The ’70s theme bonspiel features 22 mixed and 10 beginners’ rinks.
Last year the Dave Klatchuk rink of third Sharon Monk, second Bob Forbes and lead Janice Klatchuk beat Warren Sadoway 5-3 in seven ends to finish 4-0 in the 21-team draw.
In 10-team beginner’s bracket Stacy Burzminski defeated Grant Kolodychuk in the AA final.
The next bonspiel at the club is the St. Albert Centre ladies Feb. 21 to 24.
The St. Albert Flyers skate into Thursday’s game against the KC Centennials undefeated in seven games in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.
Faceoff is 8 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The Flyers (13-5-5) are one point behind the first-place SSAC Bulldogs (14-6-4) with a game in hand in the north division pennant race.
The Centennials (10-9-2) are eighth in the 12-team standings.
In league scoring Curtis Peck is tied for ninth place with 34 points in 23 games. He also leads the team in goals with 16.
Pat Dea (7-4-2) is the league’s No. 1 netminder with a 2.00 GAA. .935 save percentage and three shutouts.
Friday the St. Albert teams in the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League battle at 7:45 p.m. at Northstar Hyundai Arena
The Blues (16-7-3) are first in the inside edge division and the Crusaders (6-12-6) are ranked fifth in the west blue division.
The Blues are 3-1 in January after going 5-1-1 in December.
This month the Crusaders are 3-2-1 and last month they were 0-3-1.
Taylor Lotoski leads the Blues in goals with 20 in 25 games and Braden MacIver scored a team-high 36 points in 26 games.
Mitch Vigneau (8-3-2, 2.14 GAA) and JT Bartlett (8-3-1, 2.67 GAA) of the Blues are ranked third and fifth, respectively, among the league’s netminders.
Jason Kidd and Devyn Myck are co-leaders on the Crusaders in goals with 17 apiece and Matt Havens is the top point producer with 43 in 21 games.
In net for the Crusaders are Adam Gallagher (2-2-4, 3.89 GAA) and Sam Holik (4-9-2, 5.31 GAA).
