The Paul Kane Blues rattle the rim at home next week in metro Edmonton premier conference basketball.
The lady Blues (1-4) host the St. Francis Xavier Rams (4-2) Wednesday and the O’Leary Spartans (3-2) Thursday at 4:45 p.m.
In the 4A provincial rankings, O’Leary is No. 8, the Rams received an honourable mention and the Blues are unranked.
The Paul Kane men’s team and the Rams hook up Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. The Rams (5-0) are ranked No. 4 in 4A and the Blues (2-3), the two-time defending premier champions, are unranked.
The St. Albert Skyhawks resume league play on the road after the Christmas break in high school basketball.
Wednesday the Skyhawks (2-3) visit the Leduc Tigers (1-3) at 6:30 p.m. in the metro Edmonton premier men’s conference.
The Tigers are ranked No. 6 and the Skyhawks are No. 9 in 3A.
During the holiday break the Skyhawks competed at the San Diego Surf ‘N’ Slam Tournament. In the Slam division the Skyhawks lost 55-34 to the Mission Bay (Calif.) Buccaneers, 57-42 to the Prairie (Wash.) Falcons and 60-44 to the Lake Stevens (Wash.) Vikings.
Grade 12 guard Cam Vilcsak was selected to the five player all-star team in voting by the coaches of the eight teams.
The Skyhawks are 8-8 overall this season.
Thursday the lady Skyhawks (5-0) hoop it up against the Salisbury Sabres (0-5) at 4:45 p.m. in Sherwood Park.
The 2012 metro premier women champions and three-time reigning 3A provincial gold medallists are 15-0 this season and are currently riding a 23-game undefeated streak. The No 1-ranked 3A team in the province hasn’t lost since Feb. 25, 2012 – 68-66 to the McCoy Colts of Medicine Hat in the final of the Wetaskiwin tournament.
The last game for the Skyhawks before the holidays was the 84-28 rout of the St. Francis Xavier Rams at home Dec. 19 for their 115th win in 138 games.
The Bellerose Bulldogs have a busy slate of games scheduled next week in metro Edmonton high school basketball.
Tuesday the Bulldogs (0-4) visit the No. 4-ranked 4A St. Francis Xavier Rams (5-0) and Wednesday host the No. 7–ranked 4A O’Leary Spartans (4-1) at 4:45 p.m. in the men’s premier conference.
Last month the Bulldogs were victorious at the Sabres Classic tournament in Sherwood Park with wins over J.H. Picard, Paul Kane and J. Percy Page.
In the women’s city conference, the Bulldogs (0-4 exhibition, 1-0 league) travel to play the Archbishop MacDonald Marauders (3-0 exhibition, 1-0 league) Tuesday and the St. Joseph Saints (3-1 exhibition, 1-1 league) Wednesday at 4:45 p.m.
