This year’s game consists of two periods of hockey and one period of ringette.

Students are required to bring to school a food item for the food bank and their names will be entered in a draw to play on the students’ team.

Students can also donate food items to be eligible for door prizes.

The first regular season home game for the Bellerose Bulldogs in the metro Edmonton women’s city conference tips off today against the John Paul II Patriots of Fort Saskatchewan.

The pool B contest starts at 4:45 p.m. at Bellerose Composite High School.

The Bulldogs finished exhibition action with four losses by scores of 50-23, 51-43, 77-23 and 50-31.

Last season the Bulldogs were 1-8 in league play.

The last junior B game before the Christmas break is Friday’s tilt between the St. Albert Merchants and Morinville Jets.

Puck drop is 8:30 p.m. at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre.

In previous meetings the Jets won 4-3 in overtime in early October in St. Albert and the Merchants were victorious 3-2 on Remembrance Day in Morinville.

The Merchants (14-8-3) share second place in the west division, five points ahead of the fifth-place Jets (13-10) in the seven-team standings.

Last weekend at home the Merchants lost 6-4 to the North Edmonton Red Wings (13-9-1) and won 4-2 over the Edmonton Mustangs (11-13-1).

The Jets also beat the Mustangs 9-5 in Morinville and lost 5-4 in Wetaskiwin to the Icemen (18-9).

The Merchants are 1-2-1 after winning seven games in a row and the Jets are 4-6 in their last 10 games.

The deadline is Jan. 7 to submit applications for the fifth annual John Reid Society Scholarship.

Individuals who played bantam AAA for the St. Albert Sabres after the 2004/05 season, and played hockey in St. Albert for a minimum of three years, are eligible to apply for the $1,000 scholarship.

Applicants have to be enrolled in a recognized post-secondary education institution.

The successful applicant will be announced Jan. 17 at the opening ceremonies of the John Reid Memorial Tournament.

Previous winners were Justin Kueber, Joshua Maeda, Steven Woolger and Brady McCorriston.

The Reid scholarship was established by the parent group of the 2004/05 Sabres.
