The St. Albert Raiders and Fort Saskatchewan Rangers hook up today in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.
Puck drop is 1:15 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena. The Raiders are 6-2-3 on home ice.
In the 10-team north division the Raiders (14-4-4) are first and the Rangers (3-14-3) are in last place.
The Raiders, ranked No. 1 in league play, are 6-0-1 in their last seven games.
Next weekend the Raiders play twice at Bill Hunter Arena before heading to Calgary to compete in the 35th annual Mac’s world invitational tournament during the Christmas break. Game times are 2:45 p.m. Saturday against the Southside Athletic Club (11-4-6) and 11:45 a.m. Sunday against the Canadian Athletic Club (8-10-3).
The St. Albert Slash faceoff against the Spruce Grove Saints today in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League.
Game time is 2:15 p.m. at Northstar Hyundai Arena.
Nine points separate the third-place Slash (10-7-3) and fifth-place Saints (6-12-2) in the north standings.
The teams meet again Friday in St. Albert at 7:45 p.m.
The Slash are coming off a sixth-place 3-2 record as the B playoff finalists at the Mandi Schwartz Memorial Tournament last weekend at Notre Dame College.
The last game for the Slash before the Mac’s tournament in Calgary is next Saturday versus the first-place Edmonton Thunder (14-3-3) at 6:45 p.m. at Castledowns Arena.
The St. Albert Raiders wrap up their December homestand this weekend in the Alberta Major Bantam Female Hockey League.
The Raiders (8-4-1) host the Lloydminster Ice Cats (5-6-2) today at 4:45 p.m. and the Sherwood Park Royals (7-6-3) Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Northstar Hyundai Arena.
The Raiders and Royals share top spot in the north division, with St. Albert having three games in hand.
Last weekend in St. Albert the Raiders lost 5-4 to the Calgary Outlaws (9-4-2) and posted a 4-3 win against the Grande Prairie Storm (1-9-2).
The Raiders are led offensively by Carly Chikie’s eight goals and Jamie Jones’ 12 points.
Hannah Clark’s 1.50 GAA ranks second among netminders and is tied for the shutout lead with two.
The next home game for the St. Albert Flyers is Tuesday versus the Maple Leafs in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.
Faceoff is 8:15 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
Today the Flyers are in Camrose to play the Vikings at 3:15 p.m.
The last game for the Flyers (7-5-4) was the 6-3 loss to the Canadian Athletic Club this past Tuesday in St. Albert.
Thomas Friesen, Curtis Peck and Brendan Bow scored and netminder Pat Dea faced 28 shots.
