Tonight the St. Albert Raiders are in Sherwood Park to play the Kings at 7:45 p.m. in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.
In the north division the Raiders (9-4-3) share top spot with the Lloydminster Bobcats (8-3-5) and the Kings (4-4-7) are tied for sixth place.
The 2012 provincial finalists are 3-3 in their last six games after losing 4-1 to the Grande Prairie Storm (3-9-4) on the road Saturday and beating the Canadian Athletic Club (6-7-3) at home 6-1 Sunday.
Sebastian Auray scored against the Storm. Shots were 30-23 for the Raiders. Netminder Mitch Martell (6-2-1, 1.86 GAA) was replaced by Pat Gora after the Storm made it 3-1 early in the third period.
The Raiders converted four power play chances against the CAC. Kyler Hehn tallied twice and Zack Gonek and Paul Lovsin also scored with the man advantage.
Hehn picked up an assist to increase his team-leading point total to 23 for third place in league scoring. His 13 goals ranks second in the league.
Blake Bosch and Matteo Gennaro notched singles and Brett Smythe and Auray had two assists apiece.
The Raiders outshot the visitors 33-15. Gora (3-2-2, 2.93 GAA) was in net.
This weekend the Raiders host the Maple Leafs (4-9-2) Saturday at 1:15 p.m. and Sunday they play in Lloydminster at 2 p.m.
Tonight at 7:45 p.m. the St. Albert Sabres host the KC Squires at Akinsdale Arena in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.
The Sabres (2-9-3) trail the Squires (7-8) by seven points for the fourth and final playoff spot in the nitro north division.
The Sabres are 0-2-3 in their last five games after last week’s 3-3 draw with the Canadian Athletic Club (3-9-1) at Bill Hunter Arena. Ryan Cox potted two goals and Joshua Briggs also scored. Matt Murray stopped 40 shots for the Sabres.
The St. Albert Merchants skate twice this weekend in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.
Friday the Merchants are in Stony Plain to play the Flyers (2-15) at 8:30 p.m. and Sunday they host the North Edmonton Red Wings (8-6) at 8 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The Merchants (9-6-2) are undefeated in three games after losing four in a row.
Last weekend at home the Merchants posted victories of 7-1 against the Edmonton Royals (6-9-2) and 4-1 against the Edmonton Mustangs (8-9-1). In both games Justin Pawlenchuk had his shutout bid end in the third period.
Matt Bowles was the top scorer against the Royals with two goals and Alex Hawirko had one goal and two assists against the Mustangs.
